Either the cops don't know their azz from a hole in the ground or the media is demonizing once again. We'll never know the truth.

The VPC and Bradyites now call mini-14's "assault weapons," and their groupies in the media are just parroting what they're told.

I didn't even mention it. I automatically assume the media, especial the liberal sun news will call any semi auto an "assault weapon." although, in this case the weapon was used to assault someone.

This was posted on another board,TFL,I believe,by a relative of the officer...Good for the officer, got the perp without any harm to himself...

Training with a hand gun beats thuggery with a long gun.

Wish it worked that way every time.

Officer, suspect injured in Myrtle Beach gunfight
Man charged after shooting at police
By Kurt Knapek -
A Myrtle Beach police officer shot and wounded a man who was firing at him with an assault rifle late Friday during a gun battle in a Cedar Street parking lot, authorities said.

The officer, Jeff Thomas, suffered minor injuries believed to be from glass from his broken windshield, but he was not shot, said Capt. David Knipes, spokesman for Myrtle Beach Police Department.

The suspect - identified as Nigel Anthony Sylvester, 28, of Edgewood Drive, Myrtle Beach - was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, according to an arrest warrant.

Sylvester was hospitalized Friday night at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, but was released Saturday morning and placed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway.

Around 10:45 p.m., Thomas was responding to several reports of gunfire near Third Avenue North between Ocean Boulevard and Kings Highway, when he noticed a Jeep Cherokee with two people inside driving erratically, Knipes said.

When Thomas stopped the Jeep in the 100 block of Cedar Street in the parking lot of Carolina Breeze Apartments, the suspect got out and began firing with a .223-caliber Sturm Ruger assault rifle, police said.

As the suspect's bullets hit the windshield of Thomas' patrol car, Thomas returned fire and shot the driver, Knipes said.

When another officer arrived, he reported that he saw the suspect "laying motionless" on the ground and Thomas standing over him, according to a police report.

The male passenger from the Jeep fled during the shooting, and had not been caught as of Saturday afternoon.

Thomas was treated and released at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Knipes said.

Knipes said the State Law Enforcement Division will investigate the incident because it involved a police officer.

Thomas, in his fourth year with the department, is on administrative leave pending SLED's investigation, Knipes said.

Anyone with information about the passenger in the vehicle is asked to call the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 918-1382.

So when I use a mini 14 to stop an assualt does it become a Stop assault rifle? Or is just a rifle?

Have only good things to say about MBPD been there for the bike week.
They do a good job.

But wait, I'm confused now, because according to Ruger, they are:

"Arms Makers For Responsible Citizens"

http://www.ruger-firearms.com/

See?

So Ruger has me as confused as the anti-gunners do, when I'm done listening to them (but I repeat myself). According to Ruger, if you just don't sell too MANY full-capacity mags, or sell mags that hold too MANY rounds, and you have a clever slogan that is a backhanded slap against every other gun maker out there - if only you do those things, then the criminals cannot or will not use them. Also, I thought the Mini-14 managed to avoid classification as an "assault rifle" under most classification schemes? After all, you can get a "Ruger Ranch Rifle" at Academy at 18 yrs, but must be 21 yrs to buy a "Bushmaster XM15 ES", due to the black color of the latter, and Ruger's clever slogan. So that's further confusion. Maybe someone could clear it up for me... do you think that just maybe - POSSIBLY - it's about the intent of the user, not the gun's features that makes the difference, Ruger? No, perish the thought.

Hey Ruger, SUCK THIS!

Glad the officer came out on top! :)

NIce- except that the little mini 14 repeatedly reffered to as an assault rifle. C'mon
