got this for christmas, anyone know what it is, never seen a butt plate like it, I think bolt action from the notch and assume military stock 001.JPG stock 004.JPG stock 005.JPG

Looks like that one is missing the stock trap cover

Good news being that stock Garand cover will work, if a person wanted to just fuss with that one bit.
Mind, the entire assembly is on sale for US$35-40

BTW, this buttplate features the infamous "shoulder thing that goes up":

Original M14 stocks are worth some money. Can go over $300 for an original wood (pretty shortly, in service, they replaced wood with fiberglas which are themselves worth over $150!), but like collector stuff, small differences and proof of it (provenance, or marks) makes all the difference.

Do some searching about types, look real closely for marks, etc. Hopefully someone will come along who is an expert and can tell you if birch or walnut, that sort of basic stuff to help the search.

Do NOT take any serious steps to clean it up. Again, collector value, will likely be cleaned in the end etc but don't want to risk damaging anything, the finish can help identify the age and type, etc.

If you don't have good hollow ground screwdrivers, etc, then get some or have a friend help to make sure buttplate removal doesn't damage the screws, plate, or wood.

We had four M-14 full-autos for Honor Guard duties at my former agency. (I believe they were obtained from the Army via DPRS or DRMO, but I can't say that with certainty.) They still had the hinged shoulder support on the butts.

I never fired one, but the parts were all there if someone ever wanted to.

Stay safe.

I paid 50$ for a USGI 'plastic' and use it on my M1A.

My Springfield walnut stock remains unused, but Ive been offerd 200$ for it.

Its marked very lightly with the circle P on the wrist and the square DOD mark on the left side, under the butt plate is an X stamp, but no one used that so don`t know who made it
