For a few months now, have had a new 357 in mind - something for field and forest. Have been shooting a S&W M25 pretty well, sights are good for my eyes and is comfortable in hand. So an M27 would be a reasonable choice, have been looking for one since beginning of the year. Today, stopped at a gun shop about 80 miles away, i was in their neighborhood on another mission - stop at this place 3 or 4 times a year. They often have a couple "classic" revolvers in stock, usually an M29 or M25, once in a while an M57 or the M27 I was hoping to find. M27 was a strike out today. However in middle of a sea of Wranglers was an RBH in 357 Mag with 6 1/2 in barrel. Have a similar model in 41 Mag, shoot it fine also. Had M27 on the brain, but the RBH spoke to me and came home with me.

Went for a walk about the back 40 with it this afternoon. Lots of snow melt during the past few days, could get into the woods in a lot of places without snow shoes. My usual 357 load is a plain base 187 gr LBT design ahead of enough A2400 to yield 1100 fps, not full throttle - but seem to penetrate well and leave a good channel. My usual targets of tree fungus and stumps were fairly easy hits. Don't shoot at paper, however did line up a few on edge clay birds - at 20-25 steps; all were busted.
Curled up my pinky as it hung off the bottom of grip, had planned to put on one of those ugly Hogue rubberish grips (have one on a 41 and 45 RBH) - but the recoil with my loads is fairly tame- think I am going to carry it with stock plow grips for a while. Me, good with this- Plus my accountant was happy, as the RBH was less than half the cost of M27.

Nice! Mine is from the late 70's and I like it a lot. 6.5" has that nice long sight radius for good practical accuracy. If you can find a 9mm cylinder that fits, it's been a worthwhile investment for me. Yeah, pinky under the grip is the way to go. After it becomes automatic, you won't want to shoot them any other way. I know you'll have a good time with it. :)

Nice looking Ruger! A M-27 is on my want list too.
While I like the M27 I think I would rather find a nice M28. Why? The M28 will cost me less and I wouldn't worry about messing up a classic like the M27 at the range. I would shoot the heck out of it... I'm talking about the original M27, not the new revolvers S&W is calling the M27 in their "Classic Line."
