SSNVet:So how did the ATF know he was a "multiple purchaser"?

I thought the background check records were supposed to be destroyed within a few days.

When you buy more than one at a time the FFL is required to fill out a BATFE form 3310.4 "Report of multiple sale or other disposition of pistols or revolvers" and this form is sent to BATFE in a very short time after the sale, and to the local LEO in authority, and a copy goes with the 4473. So a multiple purchase is an automatic red flag for BATFE because it is literally hand-delivered to their attention.

I want to throw up... why was the guy "restricted?" Any answer beyond FELON will make me go insane. Obviously the guy should be arrested/tried if he drew a gun on someone, but the police/reporters in these videos are disturbing.

Don't forget the gmen could decide to label us all "gun nuts" one day and 80% of the population would go along with them because of reports like this.

I have a rack of lamb and a bottle of Veuve Cliquot in the fridge. I hope the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Gastronomy don't bust down my door!

I knew I should have paid the $200 for that tax stamp on the rack of lamb...

Every comment made about the guy could have been made about me.

I make multiple gun purchases. I'm arranging for two more right now, and I'm working on the paperwork for a new silencer.

I have safes absolutely full of guns.

I have guns all over the house.

I have more guns in my vehicle than probably most have in their safes.

You don't have any food or water. Therefore you're not a survivalist.

FourTeeFive, why did you have to make people think about that. I don't care who knows about my arsenal but I was not wanting people to know about the food, and especially the water. I hold you responsible for blowing my cover. But maybe, they won't even find the water. I have it hidden.

Investigators believe if the guns had gotten into the hands of criminals, the carnage would have been incredible because they are weapons for war.

According to the story the guns WERE in the hands of a criminal and they didn't kill anybody.

That's a stupid statement.

I thought only camo-clad overweight white folks were survivalists

ROFL!

I myself wonder why survivalists often don't seem to worry enough about surviving the threat of heart disease. I mean, sure, fat stores and subcutaneous insulation, but methinks they ought to do a little cost-benefit analysis.

Remember Y2k ? Even my computer nerd neighbors were hording food, for the big computer melt down. I guess if guns are involved, he's a survivalist, and if computers are involved its called good planning.

I guess I am a survivalist too... and they say that as if it is a bad thing.

So, were you all wrong and he got what he deserved, or does it not matter because the story contained the words "NEW JERSEY?"

or does it not matter because the story contained the words "NEW JERSEY?"

You tell me...... you like how this sounds?

"This rifle is designed to do nothing other than to hunt man," said Police Chief Tom Comey as he picked up an assault rifle from a table covered with the seized firearms.

In all, police found 20 handguns, two assault rifles, three shotguns and three rifles, including a handgun that fires rifle rounds capable of penetrating body armor used by police, Comey said.

Just because this time they were right does not exonerate a system that puts this kind of anti-gun spin on everything gun related.

The chief said he wanted to make it clear that he and the mayor are not anti-gun, but are against irresponsible gun owners and dealers.

Hah hah, that's rich... not anti gun... Sure.

TexasRifleman, you are right. I can not defend stupid statements made by this guy who should know better. He would be an ass no matter what state he lived in. My point is that the perp couldn't pass a NICS in any state, so why do we need to add in the cheap shots?

I think everyone had one of those people in their elementary school class that never did anything...never passed a test...never could spell anything except their first name...may even spent the day picking their nose, yet they passed because the teacher didn't want to put up with them another year. Well, what you never knew was...they all moved to NJ after high school.

Thanks blkbrd666, you're a class act.

My point is that the perp couldn't pass a NICS in any state, so why do we need to add in the cheap shots?

No arguments there, there are LE like that all over the country. But given the NJ gun laws you have to admit people are predisposed to look for an anti slant. Doesn't make it right, but some states do in a way ask for it just by the nature of their attitudes.

But yes, in this case the guy was clearly a criminal and there doesn't seem to be any wrongdoing on the part of NJ.

HTML:

Point well taken.

I do have to correct my original comment though. Evidently the system did allow for him to pass a NICS somewhere else. Illegally, but these "isolated" situations become talking points and battle cries for the real antis. And I'm casting no dispersions on our friends in the Carolinas:)

Most of you miss the point. New Jersey is a state that is extremeyl anti-gun. If he threatened another person in sch a manner, he committed a crime. If he was not allowed to buy guns, according to a federal restriction, and not just a state restriction, then he would have committed a crime aquiring them in another state, and the dealer would have committed a crime as well. If not, the man committed a crime by bringing those guns across the state border.

The statements by the authorities are not out of ignorance, they are purposely misleading in order to promote an anti-gun agenda. Since this is a crime investigation, a trace done by the BATFE will reveal the exact nature of the transactions, unless they were private purchases, but those would be difficult for someone to do who is visiting from several states away. So the NJ ploice KNOW the exact nature of those transactions, and are being vague in order to imply misconduct by gun dealers n other states.

And what about the other "terminology used? You can't trust police officials since way too many of them are now politicians instead of LE. Handgun capable of penetrating police armor? What does that mean? Is it a FN 5-7, or a CZ-52? I bought a 5-7 well before the hype hit, and didn't buy one to penetrate police vests, but because it was a a real flat shooting handgun. The amunition that was designed to penetrate body armor has never been offered for sale to the publc. The basis of the claim involved "tests" mad by the Brady Campaign, and even then the target amunition would only penetrate the lower rated body armor. However, why would anyone expect the Brady Campaign test to be either scientific or unbiased? The other term was "assault weapon." Never trust the antigun side to honestly use the term. It is clear that one side of the political spectrum is hoping to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban, in spite of the Heller decision. So what were they? Were they full atuomatic M-16's or were they simple Ruger 10-22's? As you will discover, because of the existance of a version of the SKS that takes Ak magazines, all SKS's have been called Assault weapons. A new SKS hasn't been allowed to be sold in about 15 years, so ALL the rest of those rifles have been C&R firearms, and thus exempt anyway. Of course, "weapons of War' is self explanatory. The implication there is that there is NO justification whatsoever for civilians to be "allowed" to own those. "Hunting" is the only PC se for a gun, not even self defense.

Evidently the system did allow for him to pass a NICS somewhere else.

Maybe. From the article I can't really tell that for sure. It says he used fake names and SS numbers but the NICS check doesn't require a SS# anyway so these may have all been private purchases. The NICS in New Jersey is the same NICS everywhere else.

Not saying it WASN'T at a dealer but it's too murky from the article to tell.

Also the article says he was a "multiple purchaser". That would indicate he bought at an FFL but if they knew how to track him down he apparently didn't use a fake name or SS# :)

Too much fuzziness.....a truly horrible piece of "news" reporting.

Now there's something we can all agree on! The media is really AWOL lately.

Romak IV, I do believe you are on target too. The info is deliberately crafted and the piss poor press just write it down and repeat it. Fact checking seems to be a thing of the past.

We are trying to fight the good fight here in NJ, but it's a daunting task and the idiots are far more numerous than we initially thought.

I must have "Weapons of War"

I have a "Weapon of War" because it was used in war. My good old M91/30 Mosin, to think I can get incendiary ammo for it  Not only will it pierce body armor, it will pierce light armor on vehicles.

Does a 1911A1 count as a "Weapon of War" since thats what it was designed for?

Same thing could could be said of my S&W Model 13 Military & Police Magnum, is it a "Weapon of War" since it was the word "Military" in the name?

God forbid I join the CMP and get an M1 Garand

And food and water? I could just talk to some friends and have probably 2 dozen MRE's and a case or two of bottled water.

I think most of my neighbors would think I was planning a hunting trip, not being a "radical" hehe. :p
