I just bought a Nagant revolver that has very little wear on it. The problem is that it seizes up. When I try to cock it for single action, it will only go halfway, then stop. It looks as if the cylinder isn't advancing far enough. It works if I advance the cylinder by hand. I marked where the cylinder jams, and it siezes on the same place every time. And, after it fires, sometimes the hammer gets stuck in the forward position, with the triggger not seeming connected to anything.

Another problem is that two empty cases have to be hammered out of the cylinder.

Take it apart & check the insides of the frame and sideplate for rubbing. I had to polish both parts on mine as they were pretty rough (lots of milling marks). Polish out the sticky chambers with 000 steel wool.

Are you sure that the cylinder is not moving forward enough - are you pushing it or turning it by hand? The seizing of the cylinder might be due to worn or damaged ratchet tooth - the cylinder can't be turned far enough for the barrel to enter its recess and the cylinder's face is pressed towards barrel. I think that this is your problem, because it fails on only one chamber.

About the sticky lockwork - disassemble and check for burs (or wear) the following parts: breech block (recoil plate), hammer block, hammer block grooves on the frame, main spring and trigger's tooth that moves the hammer block.

Boris

P.S. If you are not familiar with M1895 lockwork (and gunsmithing) I strongly suggest you to take it to a gunsmith for repair - those revolvers have complicated actions.
