Nailed or not?

Not impressed so far by the testing. He's going back to back shots with the pneumatic nil gun without letting the compressor get back up to the same pressure. Terrible testing for the FPS.

Also, he should learn to shroud the mic when he's filming during tropical storm winds.

I grew up with those air nailers and a 16 penny nail driver can slam a 3 inch nail through 2 oak 2x4. When the Air compressor is full you can shoot one about 4 times but if it has a 30 gal tank or bigger it will keep shooting and can kill you.
It has to be a contact with you to do the job due to the safety and the lack of a barrel.

The thing they never show in the movies is, the nail gun has to be pressed against something to release the safety or it won't shoot.

Noticed the guy in the vid was holding it back with his left hand.
They never do that in the movies.

Mythbusters also recently did a similar test with a nail gun. They determined that penetration was not adequate to cause fatality. Either way, it doesn't seem very pleasant

I have known contractors doing large areas that disabled or removed the safety though to allow more rapid nailing.
The safety requires pushing straight down, and being spring loaded if you try to lift slightly and nail another spot the gun will still be in contact with the work surface, either not moving or dragging across the surface. This requires the gun be lifted higher up to clear the distance the spring loaded safety travels before then being moved over and brought back down between use. While without the safety they can just nail multiple spots without all that extra up and down movement.

So it is possible some construction sites could have the safety removed or disabled before the hero arrives to take it and dispatch villains with.

There is also cartridge powered single shot nail guns for nailing into concrete.
Most use .22 blank shells loaded with more powder to propel a nail or bolt into concrete. There is some that use even more powerful cartridges.
They don't apply the gas directly to the nail, but rather to a piston that then pushes the nail home.
These could certainly be lethal, but would not be that cool in a movie with one shot.

When I was framing my basement, I was framing a wall on the floor with a Bostitch nail gun and 3" nails. At one point, I unknowingly had the safety plunger barely hooked to the edge of a 2x4 and my knee was about 4" from the business end of the gun when I fired off a nail. It hurt like crazy, but it didn't even brake the skin.

You see these stories where a construction worker was standing on the other side of a wall when a nail missed a stud and hits him in the chest and penetrates all the way into his heart. I have no idea what type nail gun did that, but I know this big old Bostitch couldn't even scratch my knee from a small distance of a few inches.

I tested one on a ham one time and the 16 penny nail at 120 psi went 6 inched deep into the ham. Now the Air nailer was in full contact with the ham. So if you got the jump on someone coming around a corner and the safety was disconnected you could kill someone with it. IMO!

While you CAN disable the safety on a nail gun it is not common and while you can get powder driven and flammable gas driven nail guns they aren't as common as pneumatic varieties. Without disabling the safety on a non-pneumatic nail gun your not likely to find any nail gun making a viable self defense tool.

I got hit in the rear end with some nails that a rookie sent through the sheathing when he missed the stud, and had the pressure way to high. I happened to be bent over nailing together headers when the nails came through the sheathing traveled another few feet and caught my attention, they hurt like paint balls on a cold day but no real damage.
