Aldo Ray, as Sgt. Muldoon, answers a reporter's comment that he thought the South Vietnamese govt. ought to fight N. Vietnam alone, calling it a civil war. He starts grabbing weapons off the display board set up for the PR Q&A session. After it's over the reporter, (David Janssen, as Beckworth) goes over to Col. Kirby (John Wayne) and says, "Colonel, your brainwashed Sargent didn't sell me." Kirby: "didn't sell ya what?" Beckworth: "didn't sell me on the idea that we should be in Southeast Asia." Kirby: "You ever been to Southeast Asia?" Beckworth, almost under his breath: "No, I haven't" Kirby: "uh-HUH."
This clip skips the Mudoon quote, but has the exchange with Kirby and Beckworth:
I find it interesting to note that when Sgt. Kinney grabs Beckworth's luggage, Beckworth swings the small bag with the strap down down to his hand. A soldier would have left it shouldered, in order to keep his right hand free. (outside of a combat zone, to salute LT's, but in camp, to be ready for action. )
