I'm going to be headed to Nashville in April for the NRA meetings and show. Wondering how many of you are going and if you will be taking your CCW. From what I have been reading there will be no CCW's permitted inside the Music Center in Nashville.

Last year I was able to carry in Indy and was a great show. Not crazy about locking up my gun in the car while I'm in the show. No way am I going to leave it in my hotel room. At this point just may leave it at home locked in my safe.

What are you guys going to do if your attending the show. My Ohio permit is good for all the states I will be traveling through from Cleveland.

I surprised the NRA didn't negotiate that, kinda goes against what they stand for. Should just go back to Indy.

I'll probably attend IF it is held in Nashville. The annual show is in Chicago this year and there is no way I will go to Chicago.

I've been trying to read through the applicable Tennessee code and all the revisions to where it is prohibited to carry CCW. My understanding of the code states you cannot carry in a facility owned by a municipality, city, etc. The Music City Center is owned by the metro county government. Same with TPAC, the convention center and similar buildings. I can't find anything requiring signage be posted stating a ban on carrying a weapon in such a facility. Kinda the "ignorance of the law is no excuse" statement they will tell you.

It has to be posted just like any other building in Tennessee. If there are no signs, then it is my understanding that it is legal to carry there with a handgun carry permit.

When I went to the meeting in Louisville they had a police spokesman on the news informing everyone that carry in the convention center was perfectly legal. When I was at the meeting in Philly I didn't see anything banning carry there but I wasn't really looking for it either.

I emailed the NRA this morning and here is the answer I got back.

Good Morning Sir,

During the 2015 NRA Annual Meeting & Exhibits, lawfully carried firearms will be permitted in the Music City Center with the proper license in accordance with Tennessee law. Bridgestone Arena prohibits the possession of firearms. When carrying your firearm, remember to follow all federal, state and local laws.

Have a great day,

NRA Shows and Exhibits Staff

I be their working the Bersa Booth . Indy was a good show. Had a good time. Next year I believe is Louisville Ky . So be close to home for me

I live in Nashville, work downtown(across from the MCC) and pass through the MCC whenever it is open for pedestrian traffic. The center is not posted! Although Tenn is an open carry state, from personal experience it is best to conceal and be discreet. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (where I work) is very vaguely posted and those signs are in the process of removal. Ya'll let me know if this home boy can answer any questions for you concerning Nashville.
The Bridgestone Arena is posted. It is home to sporting events (SEC tournament this year) and is the home of the Nashville Predators. This is the venue for the Alan Jackson performance.

Then you'd be wrong. Post #6 got it right. I had a conversation with a guy that works there a while back about that.

I waited too late this year, and the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum is sold out. Those $10 tickets went fast.

If anyone has an extra ticket (just 1), I'll happily buy it off of you. PM me.

I have tickets for Non NRA members to get in to the exhibit hall
Their good for 1 day any of the 3 days.

PM me here name address up to 6 tickets .

I'm amazed that so few seem bothered by the fact that the NRA is choosing a venue where concealed carry is prohibited. Its perplexing, in fact. What do you think antis think when they see this? This makes the NRA look silly. If its un-american and anti-constitution to ban concealed weapons, why on earth is the NRA patronizing such a place?

And what of all of you that are calling for Colt to move from CT, and no longer buying coffee from Starbucks, etc...? Are you also calling for a boycott of the NRA meeting?

NRA is choosing a venue where concealed carry is prohibited.

What makes you say the convention center is prohibited? Did you read post 10 where NRA said carry in accordance with TN permit was permitted? In other words, carry at the main convention center is OK if you have a permit (or recognized by TN), but carry at the nearby Bridgestone arena is not permitted at all (mainly for the Alan Jackson concert, if you are going).

According to the article in the Tennessean today, they are making an exception for the NRA convention and carry will be permitted if you have a permit.

If I go, I may open carry.

I didn't say anything about the convention center. I said they've chosen a venue where concealed carry is prohibited. Being able to carry at half the event is cute, but on a forum where members call for the boycott of pretty much every anti-gun establishment, its odd that no one is calling for the boycott of the NRA meeting.

Fine. I'll call for boycotting the NRA meeting, but not for the concealed carry issue. Nashville is a very anti-gun city. Back when the NRA booked this meeting, the "guns in restaurants" bill was just being passed. The Mayor and City Council did everything they could think of to prevent it from being implemented. They even threatened to pull the beer permit from any restaurant that didn't post, until the AG told them they couldn't do that due to preemption. They managed to get the original 2009 law thrown out by the Chancery court for bring "vague", so it had to be passed again in 2010, to another round of hand-wringing.

A Vanderbilt professor and his daughter started a group focused on getting restaurants to post, getting volunteers to go around to establishments with the little gun-buster decals (which carry the force of law here) pressuring restaurants to post, because they were unsafe to eat in otherwise.

And the NRA sees fit to reward this city with millions of dollars in tourist revenue? Really?
