Interesting.

Why don't they just make a law that says NBA fans can't own guns?

I mean, who else would be watching their PSAs?

The problem must be substantially within their fan demographic.

Black-on-black violence is not talked about a lot but is prevalent in society.

It's discussed quite a bit in society and especially in the Black community as a matter of fact. It is a part of the picture of killings in the U.S. today.

But as the majority of shootings and killings in the U.S. are carried out by Caucasians against other Caucasians it's only a part of the picture.

The majority of the NBA's fan base in the U.S. is Caucasian. Internationally it's Asian (China especially) followed by Europe. Basketball is growing internationally.

I don't really care what a bunch of inner-city black people think about the RKBA. Black's are 15% of the population, but commit 50% of the homicides. Gang-bangers that want to kill each other in Chicago, with illegal guns in the first place, isn't my fault or my problem.

Maybe they should look at the corruption of their culture as a huge part of their problem, rather than an in-animate object.

Does what you say correlate to these numbers?

According to the US Department of Justice, blacks accounted for 52.5% of homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008, with whites 45.3% and "Other" 2.2%. The offending rate for blacks was almost 8 times higher than whites, and the victim rate 6 times higher. Most homicides were intraracial, with 84% of white victims killed by whites, and 93% of black victims killed by blacks

I seen the commercials and shook my head in disgust. There is no reason to even talk about it though as the mods will just edit or delete everyones posts.

I don't believe that will happen,Jacob. Those commercials are based on flawed reasoning and some posts are based on flawed numbers. We simply cannot be PC and must face the truth. The story is in the demographics as Charlton Heston so wisely said back in the 1990's.

It's not being racist, it's being factual. The legacy of the 1960's Great Society has come home to roost with a vengeance. We must fix the structure of broken homes and broken families to eliminate the terrible loss of so many valuable lives.

It can be done. I truly believe.

Boycott B-Ball. Heck, every time I visited Springfield, MA, I only went to four of the five:

1) Springfield Armory National Historic Monument
2) S&W Academy & Museum
3) Indian Motorcycle Museum
4) S&W Factory

The one I never visited:

5) National B-Ball Hall of Fame

I doubt the NBA cares if they loose the gun enthusiasts' backing. That would be gun owners and supporters of the RKBA. They may not even worrying about upsetting gun owners who own, but rarely shoot and do not consider gun-rights in a candidate's suitability. Looking good to inner-city mayors and their causes is of greater importance.

I wouldn't waste the electric to watch a silly basketball game.Let alone waste money on one Be it collage or pro. Total waste of time. I moved to Ky in 1964 I have never been to or watched UK or U of L games.

Best way to stop gun violence is enforce the laws Lock these people up for 20 or 30 years no parole. Not a hand slap and out in a couple months

My first thought with "PSA"s...

If it's a "celebrity" they're usually scrambling for relevance in a dwindling career.

If it's a sports "star" he's likely doing the PSA as a nod to the legal system after getting caught; beating a wife or girlfriend, fighting dogs, drunk driving or abusing drugs... all of the above?

PSAs, to me, are worth their weight in opinion.

Todd.

I don't care what professional athletes think about anything.

They're people of no importance to me, doing things of no importance to me.

The ability to chase an inflated animal skin confers upon someone no special qualifications to comment on anything apart from chasing inflated animal skins.

The opinions of basketball (or football, or any other kind of ball) players are of no more consequence to me than the opinions of bus drivers, chicken sexers or porn video gaffers.

Athletes are just entertainers like the Hollywood crowd. What they say, think, or do is irrelevant. Corporations, and the media use them as they are famous, and for whatever reason a good chunk of the populace admires them, or at least recognizes them.

Real people actually DO STUFF. They don't play make believe on a screen, or make believe on a court, field, etc.

I don;t see this as an anti 2nd amendment ad.

it's black men speaking to other black men telling them to stop killing other black men.

it might be tidied up a bit for general consumption, but that is the message.

it's a message I agree with.

The difference is they want to restrict gun rights for everyone, not just inner-city blacks, the majority of whom can't pass a background check anyway.

Its a pointless endeavor, when your talking about criminal gun ownership, from the get-go.

+1 on what Red Wind said.

These (https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/u...murder_offenders_by_age_sex_and_race_2014.xls) are the 2014 homicide stats by offender from the FBI, but pretty much every year I've bothered to look at runs the same.

These (https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/u...2_murder_victims_by_age_sex_and_race_2014.xls) are the 2014 FBI homicide victim stats.

US demographics: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html

*IMHO this has nothing to do with race per se, and everything to do with gangs and the War on Drugs.

Had this set of PSAs been run by folks tied to reality, they would run in all the markets thusly:

Say, San Francisco -

Steph Curry comes out and says

All you young men and women in Oakland and San Francisco:

Don't deal drugs.

Don't take drugs.

Don't hang out with people who do deal or take drugs.

Stop making your mommas cry; don't shoot other people or get shot - which will be a whole lot easier if you don't hang out with people who deal drugs or take drugs.

Respect yourselves. Respect your parents. Respect your schools and teachers.

That's how you get ahead.
But of course, that does not meet the left's agenda.

Librarian, that was so well done that it makes me very angry that their liberal agenda and bias could not allow them to do it the right way...your way.

Politics always wins out over lives with these treacherous people. :(
