Sorry it's long but bear with me. I was studying at a friend's house tonight and needed to walk over to campus to make copies, it's about a 3 minute walk. So I unload my carry gun and give it to my friend to hold while I'm gone since I can't carry on campus. It's about 12:45AM and there has been a rash of students being attacked around campus and I *almost* left it on me but I'm heading up the petition to lift the carry ban at school so I didn't want people to be suspicious if someone saw me. So I finish making copies and on my way out the door I sweep the area and see a guy walking about 50 yards behind me. He yells something at me but I ignore it and keep walking quickly. He looked pretty overweight and I was sure I could outrun him if need be. I was holding on to the folding knife I had in my pocket just in case. I kept checking on him while walking back to my friend's. I walk in his door and lock it behind me. I go upstairs and get my gun. As I'm walking back down I see the guy walking past the house through the window in the door. I continue to the dining room table to get the magazine and look back through the living room window where I should have been able to see the guy walking but he's not there. Then I hear the door knob of the now locked door being turned as I'm putting the magazine in. I call up to my friend, rack the slide and walk over to the door gun in hand hidden behind my leg. He's standing there and we ask him through the glass what he wants. He says something like, "Uhh yeah I'm looking for my man, I think he lives here." We ask his "man's" name but he doesn't know it. We ask him what he wants again and he says he needs a ride. We tell him no way. He then decides it's time to leave and as he's stepping back asks if we want some "herb" and we say no. I'm glad I locked the door or he would have been ordered to the floor at gunpoint. Half an hour later I walked back home but didn't see him anywhere.

Funny thing is it's not that uncommon for random people to just walk into students' houses around here, it's happened to my friend who's house I was at. The local criminals are getting bolder and bolder.

Hey ! You did good ;

Situation awareness is the key and it sounds like you have a good sense for that.

My fraternity recently found a man in our kitchen making himself some food. I have heard other stories of people letting themselves in. It seems more and more prevalant not sure if its just on campuses though.

Sounds like you kept your cool and didn't let the situation get blown up into a dangerous situation.

Your mind is your greatest weapon. Good show.

Hey Furious,

What school did you go to? I thought most Philly P.D. had armed officers. I know at Lehigh Univ, up in Bethlehem, we had armed LEOs and also unarmed security type guys(Brownies), although there were more cops around than 'Brownies'.

The amount of emails we used to get from the Police Chief about the latest armed robbery near campus with no arrests or suspects was really what turned me from victim mode to 100% card carrying pro-gun 3 years ago...even if the cops had guns, cops are mostly around to clean up after something goes down, they can't be everywhere to protect us for the most part.

Hey Waktasz...............Lehigh '84 here....

I cringe every time I read the Morning Call about another invasion-style entry on the off-campus students. Prime victim rich enviro (mostly well-to-do---lots of gadgets, and sheeple liberals anymore)

I visit the campus often (football, the house and various activities) and dam the University's policy on no firearms on campus. (Policy---not law)
A year ago I had a group of 2-3 "locals" pester me on lower campus, they crossed on Taylor each time I did. Funny to see them make tracks as I dropped to 1 knee, hand to my grip(never cleared leather) and told them to move away!!

Campus Safety does not carry. We have a city cop that patrols the off campus student housing area at night but I hardly ever see him.

At my old apartment, people used to come in without knocking ALL THE TIME. Sometimes, randomly, one of our friends who would be over would just happen to know them and othertimes not. It was sort of wierd, but seriously, random people coming on in and helping themselves to the bathroom and a beer.

One time the hottest chick I've ever seen in real life walked in. She was about 5'8", blonde, perfect body. She doesn't say hi to anybody... She goes straight to the fridge, grabs a beer says "Does anyone else want one?" ... Then she goes over to the couch, notices the Sega Dreamcast and says "Do you guys have NFL2k1?" We ended up playing 2k1 for a while. Her favorite bands were metallica and guns and roses. She worked at hooters and was just visiting a friend for the weekend. I was unable to get laid. :banghead:

The local criminals are getting bolder and bolder.

Actually, I doubt it. Everything in your account above was commonplace when I was in school in the 1960s and early 1970s. There may be more criminals wandering around on the loose today, but I doubt the methods have changed a great deal.

I think you handled it well. If I were in school today, I'd choose a school where I could defend my life from the predators.

Quote <I think he was refering to our campus in specific. We've had an increase of 500% of assaults agianst students this year compared to last year.>

We keep telling people who try to disarm decent citizens that these things will happen, statistics shows it, the news headlines shows it, but somehow it is just not, politically or otherwise, correct for CITIZENS TO DEFEND THEIR LIVES.

Good situational awareness and in this case I do believe that you were justifed in getting that firearm ready.. (unlike a previous thread I saw.)
