Good score! They're nice little rifles, always were underappreciated. I have a 673 in .350 mag, have no intention of ever parting with it. The 673 is a 3-part designation: "6" for it's M600 lineage, "7" for it's model 7 action, and "3" for it's year of introduction (2003).

The 673 is a bit heavier and sports a longer 22" barrel, but is still a pretty handy rifle. I don't honestly think I'd want it much lighter than the 7 lbs it is in .350 mag.

I'll bet a tinkerer could fit a 673's steel rail to it.
Try the 350 mag in a bolt action Rem pistol. Talk about recoil. I had to put 4 scope rings on mine to keep the scope from moving with each shot.

I have a Mohawk in .308. The older I get the more I like the lack of weight. It was one of the last produced. '78 or '79, I forget. It did not come with a rib.

You did extremely well. I'd put the true value higher than $500. Here are a couple of comments from experience with mine...

They are incredibly handy, essentially an early if not the original "mountain rifle".

Given the short barrel and light weight, they have prodigious recoil and muzzle blast. I'd suggest a recoil pad right away, for starters.

The original sights were practically impossible to adjust properly, and once adjusted, did not hold zero. By all means, scope it. Take a look at the Nikon P223 in fixed 3X, or the Nikon ProStaff in fixed 4X. Both are lightweight scopes that will nicely complement the design of the 600.

Most of us snuggle the comb of the stock right up under our cheekbone. If you do that more than a couple of times, you'll have a tender spot there. It will train you.

Personally, I ended up with a load of 43 grains of Varget behind a 165 grain bullet. That's 3 grains below max. I've forgotten how far out it will reach before it slows enough that many bullets won't open, but IIRC it was about 250 yards. That's plenty for most practical situations.

I love mine. Wouldn't part with it on a bet. I hope you enjoy yours, and it's a good bet that you will.

Nice find on a first year 600. Some clarification is in order. A lot of people call all 600's Mohawks but only the later models were Mohawks and were marked as such. The original 600 had the vent rib and walnut stock, the next model was the 660 which did not have the rib but did have nice walnut furniture. The last ones were the Mohawk 600's with short, heavy barrels, stained birch stocks and less polishing on the barrels.

Walter is correct about Remington's trigger issues. The model 600 was the first one to get there newly designed trigger. The trigger is sensitive to dirt and the safety needs to be off in order to open the bolt for unloading. That is when the accidental discharges happens. There are numerous law suits regarding this flaw and it also applies to the model 700's. Safest way to carry a Remington is with an empty chamber. One normally has plenty of time to put one in the chamber when it comes time to shoot. Basically if you don't have time to load it you don't have a decent shot any way.
Trusting a saftey on a gun is like smoking. both will kill you, the only difference is the gun will do it faster.
Good Luck. you have a good fine rifle, enjoy it and always practice saftey
