Neck knife accident.

How does one stabbed and puncture themselves deep enough to be fatal with a neck knife? I'm not sure how this even happens. I have worn small sub 3" neck knifes in the past, so I'm trying to understand this.... Plus first it was ruled a murder, then an accident? How do they know he didn't attempt to deploy his knife, and someone stabbed him with it? The knife seemed to be found off his body.

The only thing it says is that they took a bus to the restaurant.

Obviously they planned on drinking, maybe tripped while drunk?

If it stabbed him in the neck and sliced his aorta... maybe he pulled it out? EMS, removed it while working on him?

Picture of knife is weird, maybe just the angle it was taken.

You don’t have to go very deep in the front neck area to cause damage that you might not even live through if your already at the hospital, when it occurs.

I'm no fan of neck knives, but it's hard to see how how a properly sheathed blade would be much more dangerous worn on the chest than anywhere else.

Unsheathed, of course, would be lunacy. Someone please tell me that's not a thing.

The lanyard on his alleged knife it pretty long as well as the knife itself. Combined or individually, it must have past his neck into his chest area.

Holsters and sheaths are safety equipment.

They must be checked carefully before they are used to make sure they will work as intended, will hold the gun/knife securely and will positively prevent serious injury when a knife is sheathed or a gun is holstered.

They must be checked periodically to make sure they haven't become worn or damaged to the point that their function is compromised.

You don't want to kill yourself or someone else accidentally because you aren't using a holster/sheath when you need one or are using one that is inadequate or that is worn or damaged.

Place your fingers alongside your neck to feel the pulse of your carotid arteries… the fact that you can easily feel them means they’re not deep at all… Not even a less than two inch penetration is needed to sever one - and the Vic will expire very quickly if the bleeding isn’t stopped… Very sad if self inflicted. As a general principle you can’t assume that news reports are accurate though… Nothing that I was ever personally involved in on the street was ever accurately reported. period.

This is why there are the so called Glock leg accidents as well, inadequte or cheap holsters.
I personally don't wear anything around my neck or on my fingers for a reason. When you are doing certain jobs rings can be an issue as well...

That does NOT look like any neck knife I've seen. I agree it looks like a plastic tent stake, but who would wear a tent stake?

Happened in Massachusetts. Added to that a scant 22 minutes from Boston (according to Google Maps) which has their own knife ordinances. And in a bar? A tent stake, if that is what it was, may have been the best he could have gotten away with legally, but unfortunately it killed him. This may very well be one of those instances where he was carrying a weapon for self defense in the best tactical, legal etc way possible. Something everyone on this forum has done at some point. And because of law restrictions, carried something not ideal and died from it.

A sharpened plastic tent stake would get the Vic past a metal detector. Probably a trick learned in prison.

Ok, but carrying it without sheathing the tip to prevent this very accident is just volunteering for natural selection.

Other than a custom maker, where can you get a sheath for a tent stake? This is a tragic accident. But it is a direct result of trying to abide by the law when an area (Massachusetts) takes away all reasonable means of self defense.
