So I have this 50-90 sharps I load black powder for. When the brass was new I full length sized all of it then I was told for bolt/single shot guns if the brass was only going to be used in that gun you do not need to full length size. ok great. Then I was told because it was black powder I dont even need to neck size if the loaded round chambers.
So how do I neck size only with a full length sizeing die?(if my cases nolonger feed)
Also my dies deprime on the full length sizer, so how do I deprime now.

This brass is expensive so I would really like to get some long case life out of them.

On a long straight case like that, it basically amounts to not running the die all the way down. Run it up into the die only far enough for it to tighten the neck/mouth back up for bullet seating and proper neck tension. I do the same with my 405 WCF cases. If you full length size them repeatedly you end up with a case that looks like it has swallowed an egg. :) That is it's fat where seated the bullet, then tapers down after the bullet.

ok but how do I go about depriming? I had this Idea to take the die to my friend at a machine shop and have the die opened up a bit at the base on up to the "bullet seating area. Therefore making the die a "neck sizeing" only die. This way I still have a deprimer.

If I decide not to do this how would I deprime?

Using an RCBS Full lenght resizing dies, you can just turn down the decapping/expander rod i would guess? Or make a decaper, drill a hole in a piece of wood a little bigger than the size of the primer. Set the case over it with the primer centered. To punch out the primer i bought a very large nail(spike), of the correct diameter, at the hardware store. I had extra decapping pins. I cut off the point of the hail , making a flat surface. I then drilled a hole in the nail to hold the decapping pin. The hole is just a bit smaller than the decapping pin. Tap in the decapping pin, its held by friction. Works great. Starline is now making 50-90 brass, 250Pak/$297.70

243WXB hit it. Don't go machining the die. <shakes finger> You should be able to screw the decapping stem down far enough. If not, decapping dies are cheap. :) I decap everything in a separate step these days anyway. :)

Home made decapper

HomemadeDecaper_01.jpg Your friend at the machine shop can make you a good one. This i made just to decap 1 or 2 cases without having to install the die set.
