Whats the best, $500-$600 carbine? PRK prices. I want it for my house gun. And plinking. Also the history of this little gun is interesting to me.

Any and all info requested. thanks HR.

You should be able to get a genuine WWII era Carbine for somewhere in the 600s (at least around here; don't know about PRK). GI carbines are, in my opinion, your best bet, but there are plenty of other good carbines out there. The only one people consistently warn against are the Universal carbines; among other things, the parts aren't interchangeable with the GI carbines.

In current production, there are also the IAI M1 Carbines. I have no experience with these.

When you plop down five or six bills for that new carbine, just remember that in the sixties surplus carbines were going for $20. Ouch.

virginia beach?

You must be Navy. I spent a summer training at little creek. Many years ago. Nice place. $20, yikes. I have seen the IAI not impressed. thanks HR

No, not Navy. We have many military facilities in this area, but Virginia Beach is a city of about 400,000 people; there are lots of us civilians here, too.

As stated, avoid Universal brand. Otherwise, if you keep looking you can find a seviceable, non-collectable unit on GunBroker for $400-450. I did in the last 6 months.
