Just made e-5. I need a new gun to celebrate.
I have a cav-aid lower on order. I might put something on top of that, but I may also just get a whole new gun. What do you fine people recommend?

congrats but... Not much of a pay hike from 4 to 5. Figure about $200 a month. In that price range I would reccommend a High Point Carbine.

I know enough to know that E-5 is a military rank, but could someone fill me in on what exactly it means? My best friend is a Lance Corporal in the Marines, is that similar at all?

And congrats, btw! If the pay really isn't that different as Titan6 suggests, maybe a Hi-Point really is the way to go. I hear they're great values for the money.

AN E-5 is a sergeant in the US Army. While the pay is not as much as it should be the increase in position and responsibility is tremendous. It is a bigger jump than the pay would indicate.

A Lance Corporal in the USMC is a an E-3. This is the equivalant to a Private 1st Class in the Army. Promotion is a little bit slower in the USMC.

I agree with the 1911. There is no more military firearm, has covered itself with glory from Belleau Wood to Bastogne to Baghdad. Get a good one!!

Congratulations on your promotion and your service.
I would get the Marlin 1895GS Guide Gun in 45-70.Weight a little under 7 lbs.,18 " barrel, stainless, and enough firepower with Garrett 415 grain Hammerhead loads to take any creature in North America and Africa besides.A really beautiful lever action rifle.
Maybe under $600.00 with careful shopping.

Every GI should have a 1911, it IS the GI gun. BTW, I made E-5 in 1976...

Either a springfield USGI 45 or a saiga/AK.

Peer pressure! I must capitulate! :neener: I've decided on a 1911. Monday I am going to head out and look for a nice one. Thanks, guys.

I'd recommend the Mil-Spec Springfield 1911. It has the classic 1911 look, with some minor looking improvements that make a world of difference.

well, first thank you for serving.

Second I agree with the 1911 or Garand, but part of me thinks that every current GI should have an AK. I guess I think their is value in knowing the weapon you will most likely have used against you. Plus if you get deployed, I know a lot of GI's end up having to use an AK in a pinch, might be useful to be proficient with it.

I also have to concur with the 1911 and Garand suggestions. Also kd7nqb has an excellent point about the AK. You have a gun for fun and the ammo isn't too pricey; also you get some extra training.

Congrats on the promotion and thanks for your sacrifice.

Congrads on the promotion!!! I made my E-5 back in 1998 on active duty. Currently an E-6 in the Guard. Be prepared for the extra resposibilties.
