I just acquired what I believe is a 32 Hand Ejector third model. Five screw “I” frame, 4 ¼” pinned barrel. Factory nickel plated (The “N” stamped on the frame under the grips), but the ejector star appears to be plated or possibly the bluing worn off, it hand to tell through the grunge. Plating is in very good condition with wear at the mussel and some pitting on the side of the frame under the grips. Stocks appear to be original walnut, no S&W logo, and very dark in color. Patented dates on top of barrel are Feb 8 08, Sept 14 09, Dec 29 14. No address is stamped on frame, just a small logo on left side of frame.

The SCSW (pg 127) puts the serial number range as 263001 to 536684 during 1917 to 1942. I’m guessing that my serial number 3550xx would place it in the late 1920’s or possibly early 1930’s. The grip, barrel and cylinder numbers all match. One thing that is different from the SCSW is that “32 Long CTG” is on the right side of the barrel and “Smith & Wesson” on the left side. According to SCSW these stampings should be reversed. I hope that someone can nail down a reasonably more accurate shipping date than my guesswork. And also what an approximate value may be.

The grips, if original, willl be numbered to the revolver. When you remove them, you should be able to tell. Also, on a nickel plated revolver, from the factory, the hammer, trigger, and ejector star were not nickeled.

Better photos would help.

Heat treatment of cylinders began in 1920 at serial number 321000. Serial number 379160 shipped October 1923.
Grips appear to be period correct, no medallions were used from 1920-1929.
Hammer and trigger are color case hardened, which is correct, so I doubt it was re-plated.

With the serial number under the barrel, does it have a B prefix or an N prefix?

Very nice man. I have a 3rd model hand ejector from 1926. Mine says S&W on the left side and 32 Long ctg on the right also. Looks good!

Listen to Radagast. He knows his stuff. Driftwood Johnson is a good source of info too.

May I ask? What did you pay? Just curious.
