I'd like to purchase some nice grips for my S&W 625. Right now it's got the factory hogues on it, but if I can find some nice wooden grips that arn't too pricey I would like to see about switching out.

Any ideas?

I was looking at some of those on MidwayUSA. They seem to be going for around $70. I was just looking for imput to see if there are any others out there that I should be looking into.

Here are my two 625 Mountain Guns in .45 Colt - the top has the Ahrends cocobolo square-conversion finger groove stocks, the lower one has crimson ironwood Dymondwood Combats from S&W. The f-g helps stabilize your grip for more precise aiming, while the smooth Miculek type grips are a faster grab from a holster (No fidgeting.). The Dymondwood is layered dyed/epoxy resin impregnated veneers - and machines like plastic. It is weather resistant, the wood Ahrends are weather-sensitive. Both absorb my mild-mediocre load's recoil quite well. My heavier 625JM (.45 ACP/AR) sports the JM grip it came with. The lower 625 pictured is my woods/Jeep/home .45 Colt - the upper one is my dress-up version - and actually is my first-ever S&W, thus, it has sentimental value nowadays.

I really like the Altamont grips on my M625 Springfield Commemorative. Regards, Richard:D

My 625 is mainly a target gun, with a red dot scope set up. I need to start shooting it more. I like the finger groove grips just fine. Can you, strictly speaking from opinion, tell any noticeable stability difference in the two types of grips?

For a combo that heavy, finger grooves are a good idea. Trust me, I know... ;)

If you want a nice set of wood, check out the Hogue checkered Kingwood. Some of the nicest grips I ever seen on a stainless N frame.

Good Luck...

My JM PC627 V-Comp now sports Ahrends square conversion finger groove cocobolo stocks like the upper 625MG in my photo. It is my heaviest revolver - and the squared back I find as indispensible in supporting the muzzle heavy revolver as I do the finger grooves. The 625JM is on the edge - it feels better tor most plinking with similar grips - but the included JM stock is second, in my book - and does make for a faster, no-grope/fidget, 'grab'. Of course, as I would have to buy more Ahrends stocks, $60 + $6 s/h, and those JMs came on the 625JM, I'll just have to get by, LOL!

My Hogues for the 625 are Double finger
grooves, end cap in Rosewood.

THe 686P gets one finger groove checkered,
w/end cap in Coco Bolo. maybe they'll be
in by Veteran's Day.

Checkering is a $26 option.

I have hogues in Coco Bolo, round butt non checkerd
