My worse case senerio happened yesterday when I went to the glovebox of my truck and one of my guns was not there. I last saw it this past Weds. I came home last night and tore the house down looking for it. Needless to say I didn't sleep. The gun was a Smith SW99OL compact. I am sick to my stomach right now and need to know what my next step is. I assume call the cops but what number? My address is in one town but I am currently "pretty much" living in another with my girlfriend. Which town do I call. Guys any help here is appreciated. I have had my permit for 11 years and have owned at least 400 guns in my life and have never lost one/had one stolen.

Look into your insurance policy to see if it would cover items stolen out of your car. Some do, some don't.
The gun will likely never be recovered in a manner that would return it to your possession, so try the insurance route and file a claim for the stolen property.
If you're lucky, you'll get an insurance claim and be shopping for a replacement.
If you're insurance doesn't cover this and you plan to keep firearms in your auto, make some changes to your insurance policy to cover stolen items.

Do you lock your doors?? Was there any sign of a break in?? +1 to call the jurisdiction of where it most likely happened in. Call the non emergency police number. it should be in the phone book. Where do you live, I see central CT, But is it in the country or what?? Do you have many neighbors? Im really curious about stuff like that, and why people dont lock their car doors. I knew someone who never locked his car doors, He said he was from Chicago and If you lock your doors you will have a broken window and a stolen stereo, so he stopped locking his doors and just lived with getting his stereo stolen lol

In Chicago back in the early to mid nineties we'd leave the car unlocked and take out the stereo and bring it with us, or lock the stereo faceplate in a small safe in the trunk.

Ideally, you'd attract a homeless man to sleep in your car by leaving blankets and a little food in the back seat.

A buddy had the window of his classic vintage BMW smashed -- all that was taken was a backpack with laundry and some lawbooks in it. What a waste.

It was a different world.

I'd report it where you think it happened. Call the NRA right away too about your insurance with them. (assuming you are a member) They should cover up to $1000, but there is probably "fine print" you need to work through.

Update

I called a really close friend who has many friends in the Waterbury Police dept (my town). One guy a detective about my age (32) met up with me and we filled out a report. It is really good to know people, and they didn't make me feel like a scum bag for having this happen. To answer a few questions.

1) I try to ALWAYS lock the doors
2) Normaly bring the gun inside at night
3) Let my NRA membership lapse a year ago
4) No neighbors at my house but at my girlfriend's house in Avon (nicer town) the next door neighbor is a retired cop and just had his snow blower stolen out of his garage (found out this morning)
5) I had forgot I took this gun off before going into the post office on lunch break, a whole freakin week ago.
6) There was no break in damage, but Friday my battery died and I couldn't lock my doors in the driveway (Avon) all day, until I replaced the battery.
7) I felt naked by not taking a gun on me to the police dept today. It's not that I don't have more guns I just felt irresponsible and like I shouldn't be carrying.
8) All week I carried my KelTec P3AT and not a larger gun (the sw99 or my CS9).

Advice:
DO NOT LEAVE A GUN IN A CAR! I know its sometimes unavoidable, but from what you've said, you haven't seen this gun in a week. Going into the post office, I understand. Forgetting for a week is being irresponsible. I'm not trying to add insult to injury or be an a$$, but maintaining accountability of weapons is something the army beat into me a long time ago.
