Need help choosing a new .45

I'm looking at adding either a full size or compact .45 handgun to my collection.

The 3 different models i'm considering are the Sig P220 Elite, HK45c, or the FNX-45.

Bitchin accuracy, a great trigger, and top notch quality/reliability are my requirements, which i'm sure i'll get from any of the 3 models mentioned.

I've mostly owned and shot strike fired guns and 1911's, so i'm most used to those triggers.

Please help sway me one way or another!

I have owned pretty close to all three. I had a nice Sig P220 that shot great but It was just too much bulk for its low ammo capacity so I sold it.

I still own an HK USP and an FNP45. I find both of these guns very similar in feel, weight and accuracy which is fantastic by the way. I added threaded barrels to both for suppressor use. If I had to chose between these two I think I would go with the FNP I don't know why but I just seem to like it a hair better.

Never get me to say something bad about a good Sig.

P220 elite or P220 elite match. They have SAO frame P220s if you have to have it.

Not going to say anything bad about the Sig P220 except for the capacity. Handles and feels right in the hand, recoil is soft, and a .22 kit is the perfect practice gun. The most rds that you can carry is 10 +1.

The FNX is my favorite .45 handgun. It is one of the softest shoothing .45 that I own. 15+1 if you are looking for capacity. The interchangeable grip makes the FNX/FNP very suitable to your grip. The only real downside to the FN pistols are the cost and availability of magazines.

My choice would be the FNX simply because I already own 2 of them.

If those three guns were sitting on a table and i could pick one to take home, I'd take the hk 45c with out thinking twice. When it comes to durability and reliability the HK is likely as good as it gets. It also has accuracy in spades. I have or have had guns from sig, glock smith, fn (but not the fnx45), hk and a bunch of others. I'm not a blind fanboy of any one brand, but the hk45 and 45c really impress.

Thank you for all of the comments. I've begun leaning more towards the H&K 45c. I've never owned an H&K, and have always been drawn to them.

My only concern with the H&K was the heavy trigger, however from what i've read the Light-LEM trigger greatly improves the pull. Is the light-LEM trigger something thats available from the factory, or is it a conversion that must be done after purchasing?

The FNX's grip is too blocky for me. It is just too big. The HK fits better in the hand, but it's also very large. The SIG fits me well, but again has the eight round mag. The SIG P227 holds 10 and has an extended magazine. The Glock 21 Gen4 is a really good gun.

If capacity is an issue: go the other route.

Since your accustomed to 1911, why don't you consider a Sig 1911, Kimber 1911 or Ruger or Smith? All very fine autos and I own 3 of these and love them.

My vote is for the Springfield Armory XDm 45 3.8. My wife recently bought one and I'm quite pleased with it after, oh ... 300 rounds or so. And so is she but she prefers her SR-40 actually and is looking for an SR-45.

Of course I really like my Glock 30SF too ... a fine shooter. However the XDm is newer so it's getting all the 45 caliber attention right now.

My vote goes to the SIG P-220 as it's the best fit and the most comfortable of the three choices for my smaller hand size.

I have medium to small hands and I cannot comfortably grip and shoot a P220. It has a very large grip to be a single stack. Sig P220 and P226 are awesome guns if you can comfortably shoot them. FN 45 is a bit smaller but still large, but also holds more shells. I would suggest the M&P 45 or the HK 45/ 45c. The ergonomics of the M&P and H&K will allow for a better hold and trigger pull if you do not have large hands.

The Sig, FN, M&P, and HK pistols are all very nice and get the job done. I use to try and buy a brand but over time learned that I shoot much more accurately if I buy a gun that feels good in my hand and allows me to get a good trigger pull. For me the only 45s that do that are the 1911s and a S&W 625 revolver. The old steel S&W 4506 and 4566 pistols were very nice but they are getting harder to find now. I have never handled an XD 45, and find Glocks to be bulky also although I have never fired a Glock 45.

I have almost a dozen .45s in Glock and various 1911s. If I had to keep only one, I hate to say it, but the G36 is the keeper. But then again, it depends on what YOU are going to do with it...

The Sig P220 is my favorite of all my 45's, except maybe my S&W 25-2 which is obviously in a different category.
Can't go wrong with a P220.

I own a HK45c and it is one of my favorite 45's. Nice trigger and super accurate. Had never owned a HK and wanted to give one a try. IMO you won't be disappointed , but it is pricey.

Sig gets my vote. I've got the P220 and P226. Both fantastic firearms. Glocks are incredible too, but some don't like "plastic" guns.

Of your options listed, the HK & SIG are a tie on quality & accuracy.
Go with which ever fits & points best for you.
