Need help choosing CCW

jbab, it is a real shame the person who walked in got shot and killed and, you are very lucky to not have been thrown into a very difficult situation.
It would have been one of those "hip shoot" situations looking for an opportunity. Most perps believe their victims are unarmed-thus that could work as an advantage.
Touro nice choice with the LCP. Take your time, run it through its paces.

Ben86 is right, in my opinion. Hoppe's #9 Men's Cologne, a very faint amount of lube/oil on the wear points, and 100 rounds...you should be juuuuuuust fine!

touro, I forget to recommend getting an 11 pound wolff gunspring for your LCP. I got one for mine and it has decreased recoil, the slide closes better and my brass doesn't fly 15 yards away. I also recommend promags for the lcp, the ones that come with the grip extension. They are a much cheaper than OEM and mine have been 100% flawless so far (after 100 rounds). Also, I suggest "whiting out" the front sight with some nail polish, white sticker or something else. It makes the sights much more usable. Mine has a little strip of white sticker that surprisingly stays put.

Got it all cleaned up. There was a thick layer of oil on all the metal, looked like 10w-40. Nasty stuff. I suspect this is the reason alot of people have problems with autoloaders out of the box. The direcetions dont even tell you to clean it before u shoot or at least I didnt see it. I hope to have some time on thanksgiving morning to shoot it. I was low on hoppes so I had to use CLP mostly to clean it but that seems to have gotten the nasty oil/grease off. I used the hoppes in the barrell to make sure there was no grease in there.

I like my glock 26 but I could definitely conceal a 19 (on my list to get). the 26 is easy to conceal, and shoots great.
next I'm getting a makarov though...because I want one :)

edit: just saw you wound up with an LCP. those look nice, hard to beat a pocket gun (for concealability)!

touro, most new weapons are packed with that preserving grease which has to be removed completely. Before oiling it lightly I would totally dry wipe it to make sure no grease is still present. Before I shoot any handgun I wipe dry the barrell.

Yea, I noticed that. My XD and GP100 didnt have that or at least not nearly as bad. That little LCP had a lot of grease/oil in it. The CLP seemed to dissolve it. I wish I had some spay in solvent but all i had was a little jar of hoppes that was almost empty,. I used the hoppes for inside the barrel, clp for everything else.

I carry either of two guns: An all steel S&W Model 36 Chiefs Special J-frame, or a Glock 19.
Both conceal very well. I have Bianchi IWB's for both, or a Bianchi Black Widow OWB for the Chiefs Special and an OWB D.M. Bullard custom made holster for the G19. I prefer OWB holsters for comfort, quick access and fast drawing. They aren't quite as concealable as an IWB holster but I find them more comfortable for all day-every day wear. I also think a gun in an OWB is easier to get to faster than an IWB, but YMMV.

Clearly the Glock has more round capacity, but in a surprise situation where you only need to get off one or two shots to save your life, how important is a large cap? The Chiefs Special has only a 5 round cap, with practice in point shooting it does remarkably well, and anyway, if you need more than 5 you may be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I got to shoot my LCP today at my club. I shot 25 Winchester FMJs, 24 PPUs FMJs, and 7 Critical defense. Not a single malfucntion. The gun shot flawlessly. I was surprised I didnt have any problems, most people say u will have some issues during break in. I was also surprised how easy it was to shoot. It was snappy but in no way painful. I dont think I would want to pop off 300 rounds in one day but for 56 I shot, no problems. It was also pretty accurate at 7-10 yards ( i didnt measure but it was right around 10) All 56 shots were kill shots, center mass on a 1/2 size humanoid target. Cant ask for better than that. I didnt shoot any over 10 yards, I dont think this gun is made for that kind of range, why bother frustrating myself. I love it when you buy something that works well. I did use small grip extension that came with gun. I plan to carry it that way.

I'm glad the gun made a good first impression on you. Mine has been just as reliable as my Glocks. I can't shoot more than 100 rounds through it before my hand starts shaking pretty bad from recoil fatigue and the web of my hand starts chaffing. Considering that I only carry 13 rounds with me when I CC the gun I don't see this every being a problem. I do some 25 yard shooting just for the heck of it, and I can keep them on paper mostly. You'll be surprised what you can do with this gun if you try. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the LCP.

Also, I find that squeezing a bit harder with my support hand than I usually do with my other guns helps me deal with the snappiness better during rapid fire. Just gotta learn to work with that tiny grip.

My usual carry for the last 3 years was/is an xd40sc. I'm over 200 flawless rds into an LCP I picked up for days when even the sc is a bit too bulky. Even when the xd is not actually on me it's usually close.

After shooting this little .380 I realize it what it is and I have a gut feeling that down the road I'll be looking for a single stack 9 or 40. Until then I think it's a helluva a lot better than dirty looks and cussin.
