Need help finding info on the U.S. sending civilian arms to England during WW2

I need help finding information about the U.S. sending civilian arms to England to help protect it from German invasion during WW2. I'm pretty sure the NRA was involved, and the effort was for U.S. citizens to donate guns to the english public to defense themselves if an invasion took place.

I remember reading about this in the American Rifleman several years ago, with a poster for the gun drive, but I'm unable to find anything online.

Any help would be appeciated.

US citizens sent arms to both the UK and Germany from the later 30s until the early 40s. Especially the German residents. A number of citizens went on to fight for either side too.

You need to send a SASE along with the question so they can send you the information.
I'd imagine if you asked for the article re-print and other info they'd supply it.

Bottom line is, the Brits begged (literally) for guns from America to fight off the expected German invasion.
Since they were already deep into anti-gun banning, they were arming Home Guards with basically spears and clubs, along with whatever shotguns were still around.

The NRA responded and a lot of Americans sent guns.
The "deal" was, we'd "loan" them guns, and after the emergency was over, they'd be returned.

The war was either in it's last days or just over when the Brits collected all the loaned guns from the Home Guard , and pitched them into the North Atlantic.
This angered a lot of Americans who'd really expected to get their valuable guns back, and most vowed to never again help Britain if they needed firearms again.

Yep, they got dunked and are now probably just rusted relics. A terrible waste really, but some people are just stupid. I won't do that, though.
