I've got someone telling me they had a 9mm load with a 158gr bullet running 96,000!!!! psi. Can someone punch those numbers into quickload and tell me how fast that would be moving out of a 5 inch barrel?
I know it would blow the gun apart. That would blow any gun apart. I was just wondering what velocity it would generate. He also said it had 461 pounds of energy. Which would only be 1150 fps.
How does the guy know what the pressure is? He may think he does, but I'm not buying it.
If someone is claiming that, ask him what he's basing the claim on. If he knows the actual pressure then he must know what his muzzle velocity is because if you're going to measure pressure I would think you'd have a chronograph, too.
If he is getting his pressure figures from a strain gauge or a pressure barrel, then 93,000 might be close accurate (which raises questions as to how a gun survives). But if he is relying on QL to calculate the pressure, the number could be meaningless.
The QL algorithm was developed for bottleneck cartridges and can give erratic pressure calculations with straightwall cartridges at high pressures. An overpressure load will still be overpressure, but not by the amount calculated. Instead of 93kpsi, the actual pressure might be 45-60kpsi. Or less or more. Really need a pressure barrel to know.
