Need help ID'ing a mark on a 1944 SAKO M39

The mark is on the receiver of a 1944 SAKO M39, just above the ground eagle. The mark appears to be a crown of some sort. My first though was that the mark was a Serbian crown, but upon further research, the crown on the M39 doesnt look exactly like the Serbian crown. The receiver on this particular M39 is a 1904 Izhevsk. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks to have three segments and a cross on top, whereas yours has four segments and no top knot? I'm not so sure. Look at this article:

The crown on the flag has four petals just as your stamp does. Also there is considerable variation in the style of crown stamps, shown in the various illustrations at the bottom of the page. The authors have ID'd two variations, though both of these have the cross yours lacks. They also point out that there was an export to Finland from Serbia, though.

Interesting one! My vote would be that it's a Serb proof mark that served some subsidiary role to the more ornate crown stamps on the Serb barrel shanks.

Thank you Cosmoline. I was thinking the same thing, just wanted to be completely sure.
