Need help in Houston

One of my bosses here knows I'm a shooter and he happened to see my CHL the other day. He is harping on me now for a quality CHL instructor and I told him I could probably find him a good one.

Any THR members certified? He's a pretty good guy and I'd like to take care of him.

I got mine through Tom Estep out of Texas City. I met him at an IDPA match.

Carters Country has classes bi-weekly. I went there and it was an enjoyable day. Pretty reasonable too, I think $100.

My opinion on CHL classes is that they are like defensive driving classes - a quality instructor in either is one who can mange to keep you awake. CHL classes are NOT a place to receive shooting instruction or learn defensive tactics.

I took my initial CHL at Carters and found the instructor to be informative and entertaining enough to keep you awake. I don't recall the instructors name, and this was almost 2 1/2 years ago, so no promises there.

I took mine at Texas Shooters out at 8 and 10. The guy who owns the place is um... well, I'll leave my opinion unstated. However, the HPD officer that did it, Klepac was a good guy. He covered everything really well, gave out some shooting tips, and helped people who weren't as qualified as they should have been. Another thing that I liked was that he talked about how to conduct yourself after a shooting and handed out cards with the "grand jury checklist" on them. HE discussed everything that a police officer would do leading up to and following a shooting and how you could do the same thing to protect yourself. I was really pleased with him and if the owner of the place wasn't so arrogant, I would recommend the class there. I think I have his number stashed away, he offers classes elsewhere.
