I could use some help, I have all my needs filled and a lot of wants. I am going to buy another gun and I have it narrowed down to 3 maybe 4. I have plenty hunting rifles, black rifles and shotguns so it does not fill a need, it fills a want.

If you own, have owned or just have opinions on please let me know.

Tikka T3 hunter walnut stock in 270 or 308
Savage 10/110 Trophy Hunter XP walnut stock in 270 or 308
Browning BPS (pump shotgun) in 16 gauge
Walther PPK blued in 380

I know this is a wide variety I would just like input on the guns good or bad. Also I have nothing in these 4 calibers.

Thanks

I have a pair of Tikka's. Happy to help.
But like an earlier post noted, 'Who wouldn't want a James Bond gun?'. It's like comparing fish and bicycles so I don't quite understand why both the Tikka and the Walther would be on the same list but it sounds like you want to build out a diverse collection in any order. That is a very enjoyable task that is never completed.

The reason the for the 3 different styles is because I decided I did not have a 270 so I went 270 shopping. I narrowed it down between the Savage and the Tikka, while I was there I saw a Browning BPS and I though I have always wanted a 16gauge too and the Browning BPS comes in that gauge. Then as I was typing my question I thought why not throw in the PPK. Although I have not heard a lot of good about S&W version.

So I guess the first question is between the Savage and the Tikka, I understand the Tikka is a better gun but that after 3 shots the barrel heats up and it's not quite as accurate, any truth to that?

A coworker has a tikka in 270 that i have got to mess with some. I was impressed with it. He has taken several deer with it. I have no experience with the others listed.

Take a look at the Bersa Thunder 380 Plus. It's a PPK clone and comes with a 15 round double stack mag. They have great reviews, an excellent warranty, and are a lot less expensive than a PPK. I have one and have been very pleased with it.

firstshot

If the PPK, I've had them in .22, .32, and .380, in German made versions. I much prefer the .22 and .32, did not care for the .380 and got rid of those.

I have no reason to think that's an issue at all. The barrels are not uniquely slim, the metallurgy is first class and the performance is both excellent and quite steady.
Who's been spreading that bunk? :)

I have the T3 lite stainless 308 and PPK/S 380

Both are great guns in my book. The T3 has a synthetic stock, but I have seen some very pretty wood on other T3s. Very slick, accurate, with good trigger.

The PPK/S is an old design. Mine is an old timer, but it has never missed a lick. Bersa offers at least equal function at a lower price point, but there is no denying the appeal of the "made in Germany" gun (many of which were built in France).

When large numbers of PPKs (just those) built in the US under license by Smith and Wesson were recalled to the factory, were all of them repaired?
That recall might explain part of the success of the French/German "Manurhin" PPK, and the Sig 230/232: no recalls.
