I've built a distance AR, but would now like to bump it up to a 6.8 SPC for accuracy at 200 yards (the barrel I used wasn't the best choice). I would like a match grade, HEAVY barrel, as I won't be lugging it around. I've seen a few on Midway, Bison (whom I've never heard of), and I don't know what to look for. I have a standard gas system, and will buy a new gas-block for the bull barrel, but I'd like to keep the gas tube I have. If anyone knows where to get a good barrel, please point me in the right direction. Thank you.

ASI (Accuracy Systems International) uses Kreiger Barrels. They are a tad on the salty side but from everyone I have spoken to that has used their products (and I will be one of them in about a month when I get my new toy in :) ) they are top notch in quality.

Bison makes pretty good barrels (I have one), but I am not sure who makes a "HEAVY" one for 6.8. Their SPR profile is .84" under the handguard. http://bisonarmory.com/barrels.htm

WOA and Rainier also have good products and can be on found on the heavier side here: http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=548

Black Hole Weaponry might be the heaviest that I can think of with .97" behind the gas block and a .92" gas block diameter. They also have a good reputation: http://www.blackholeweaponry.com/ca...d=191&osCsid=4b4651b74bc328f9776e7a9108cfb61f

Pretty much any seasoned 6.8 guy can tell you Bison is top notch. Chamber dimensions, gas port location and diameter, twist and type of rifling are critical to performance on the 6.8.

The guide is getting a little dated now but still very beneficial to the 6.8 newbie.

Here's another recommendation.

I have 2 Bison 6.8's from Ben over at Bison and I'll be breaking in the second one in the morning.

Have fun!

Good point! I did not know that.
I agree with the Black hole recommendation too.

Wow, great info. Thanks fellas. EDIT: Ordered barrel and bolt from Bison. Anyone want a YHM fluted barrel? Haha.

I thought about it, but I've already built a pretty nice upper, but skimped on the barrel because I was planning on going with 6.5 Grendel eventually and the barrel I wanted was over $600. This way, I can just do the barrel swap and recoup something from the old barrel.

Anyone have a good way to contact Bison? Kind of bothers me when I can't get a phone call returned, or email even. I purchased the barrel Monday, got a receipt, but no correspondence since. No one picks up the phone...

Got a call, they were out of the office yesterday. They upgraded my barrel since they were out of the one I ordered. Shipping Monday. I'll let everyone know my results once I get a chance to shoot it.
