I just bought a used Sig P220 American for a ridiculously low price. It's an older one, the slide is marked "Tyson's Corner, VA", so I think this pistol is from 1987 or 88. I haven't checked the date code yet.
Anyways, I was disappointed that the double action pull was nothing like I expect from a SIG. It's sort of heavy, but basically not smooth. Kinda like the DA pull on a Smith and Wesson autopistol. I compared it to my P226, which has the excellent SIG trigger, and the P220 was half as good, maybe worse. The single action pull is very good. Not excellent, but very good.
I don't think there is any mechanical or lubrication issue. The previous owner obviously took excellent care of the pistol. Although the slide shows significant holster wear, the internals are spotless and the barrel gleams. The rails were tastefully lubed. Basically a pistolero's pistol.
So what can I do about this? I looked in the Brownells catalog, and I see you can buy different trigger components. Can I buy new trigger components and have a SIG armorer drop them in? There are like Sig 220 Sport hammer struts, etc. Would these result in a better trigger?
Thanks!
