Hello all, I'm having a little trouble finding any data for the .45 acp using Berry's 185 gr. Hollow Base Round Nose bullets. So I'm asking if anyone has used these, and what powders have you tried? I would like to use Win. 231, but have other powders like; Unique, AA#5, and Bullseye, so any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance. LM.
PS. These bullets look nearly the same size as 230 gr. LRN or FMJ, but have a deep hollow cavity in the bottom, eliminating that extra weight of a 230 gr bullet to make a 185 gr bullet.

I would use mid-range 185 jacketed bullet data.
The weight of the bullet is much more importent then the base, or lack thereof.

I would probably start with 5.0, and try to end up around 5.5 for a functioning mid-level target load.

Thanks RC, I was thinking 5.1 to 5.6 based on all info found in what pamplets & loading books I have. Being these bullets are similar in size to a 230 gr. fmj I'm thinking to keep the OAL to around 1.265. LM

Can't really go wrong with 5 grains of Bullseye. I use that with lead, plated and jacketed bullets from 180 to 230. Doesn't matter if RN , FP or hollow point.

I shoot that bullet all the time. The 185gr HBRN has the same profile as a 230gr RN, the hollow base makes it lighter. OAL is gun specific. My UCII likes a shorter length 1.225". I use WST for it burns a lot cleaner than 231 or Unique. Unique does not meter well in my powder dispenser so it's not used. I've use W231 but only in the 200gr weight so can't help you with the load.
