My situation is as follows:
I recently returned from spending a year in the wastelands of SW Asia. While I was there I had planned to put together an AR15 shortly after my return. I don't think I need to go into detail about the political climate I returned to but it seems acquiring what I want for an AR15 is looking difficult if not impossible.
Another problem I have is that I want a 20" government profile barrel for it. They were hard to find before the madness let alone now. It seems the overwhelming majority of the 20" barrels are the extremely front-heavy bull barreled variety. I've owned one of the bull barreled types so I speak from experience when I say that one would be useless to me.
Ideally I would like a flattop upper, 20" government profile barrel with barrel twists of 1:7", 1:8", or 1:9". I'd be willing to accept an A2 upper if needed.Accuracy is important to me too, so I'm willing to spend a little more for a higher-grade barrel.
Is there any way I can obtain one of these uppers in the immediate future or am I better off waiting some more(do I even have a choice)?
Another option I'm looking into to keep me content while I wait on my AR15 is to buy a Kel-Tec SU-16 as sort of a "stopgap measure". I have plenty of M16 magazines, 5.56x45 ammunition, EOTech, etc. sitting around here collecting dust that I could use for the SU-16 in the meantime. After I get my AR, the SU-16 would make a good backpacking type rifle(always wanted a rifle for that role) and a backup to the AR.
