Can anyone provide info on the Marlin 30AW? It is a 30-30 with two barrel bands, one by the front sight and the other near the end of the forearm. Rifle has no pistol grip cap and has a Marlin brand recoil pad. The wood is plain, nothing fancy. To anyone's knowledge, does Marlin provide information on DOB on their rifles? I am also looking for an owner's manual for it. If possible, would like some clarification on the meanings of the various codes(C,W,AW,etc) of the models.
Does Williams sells their peep sights directly, or does one have to go through a middle man? The rifle right now just has the standard notched blade rear and gold front sight. Another addition to the rifle's description is a gold trigger and crossbolt safety( annoying). Many thanks to all who respond.

The 30AW is basically what today is known as a 336W. It's a hardwood-stocked model 336. (This rifle is comparable to the older Marlin/Glenfield 30A; if you're wondering what the "W" stands for, I don't know. Some people claim it's for "Wal-Mart"; dunno if that's true.)

Year of manufacture is determined by taking the first two digits of the serial number and subtracting from 100; e.g., 18XXXXXX means the rifle was made in 1982. Here's a lookup tool: http://oldguns.net/sn_php/marlinlookup.php

Contact www.marlinfirearms.com for a manual, or go to http://www.marlinfirearms.com/customersupport/manuals.aspx to download one for a 336W, which is virtually identical, as mentioned.

Williams sells the peep sights directly at http://www.williamsgunsight.com/gunsights/rifle1.htm

Keep in mind that Google is very helpful for finding information like this.

Have fun with the rifle!
