Kydex has let me down again. This holster at least lasted 4 years, the manufacturer had a lifetime warranty, but they went out of business 3 years ago! :banghead:

I'm getting tired of the Kydex breaking over time, and now I'm looking at my options with leather so I'm not replacing holsters every couple of years. I need an easy to put on and take off holster for a full size 1911. I prefer a sweat guard. I always carry IWB. I like clips as I can take it on and off in a second. I have about 65ish dollars to spend.

Well, what would you recommend?

$65 is really at the bottom end of what a holster would cost, for kydex. I'd expect to be in the $100 range for leather.

You may get more durability out of loops with snaps rather than a clip as the clip normally needs to bend some as you put it over and take it off your belt. While more than you want to spend, the Milt Sparks Summer Special II is probably a good design to look for. http://www.miltsparks.com

Don Hume probably has some in that price range. http://www.donhume.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=65_5

Galco has their Summer Comfort, but it doesn't have the sweat shield. The new version of the Royal Guard II (I think it's called the II) has a sweat shield but is more than $100.

El Paso Saddlery may have a couple of models. http://www.epsaddlery.com/c-11-concealment.aspx

I carry mine in a Bianchi Professional holster. Its nothing special, but comfortable, conceals well and was about $50.

I too like a clip on and off holster when I carry iwb.

Concur on the Milt Sparks.

I've been using one for five years and they are superb. Pick one up from Brownells for $90 and you will be done.

Milt Sparks: I have had an EX since it was introduced in 1990.While not used on a daily basis it has worked exceptionally well for concealment. No body ever knew I had old slab sides on.
Milt Sparks has other models as well, you really cannot beat them for design, build quality, comfort and customer service.

Holsters are easy to make. A shoulder from Tandy will make a dozen or more, and after throwing in thread and other odds and ends, you'll have those holsters for less than one "store boughten" holster.

So I ended up in a local shop in my area, and found a holster I fell in love with. The Blackhawk brand leather holsters are made in Italy, and I was so surprised at how comfortable it was. Has a clip, and sweat guard.

I tried it on, and couldn't even feel it. Amazing, wore it the rest of today and love it. If I had known leather could be this comfortable, I would have been buying kydex!

Any advice for maintenance?

I like Sno-Seal on holsters, especially IWBs. It sweat-proofs them.

Gently warm the holster with a heat gun, then melt the Sno-Seal and rub it in well. Allow the holster to sit for a couple of hours, and then brush it with a shoe brush.

I have a High Noon Split Decision which has a split that allows you to put the inside against your undershirt then tuck in your shirt so the gun rides between the undershirt and the shirt. It's leather with reinforcing for the front sight. Cost depends on the leather you choose but is reasonable. The holster is for concealed carry so holstering is methodical.
