Welcome to the High Road Shawn! :)

My town, Sudbury, used to be notorious for not issuing Class A LTCs unrestricted (For All Legal Purposes, this allows you to carry concealed) but there is a new chief in town as of last January, and he saw fit to issue one to me, so I have hope for this town at least. I just wish all the other towns cheifs could see the light as well. :/

Within the past year I traveled into western MA from VT on interstate 91. There was a sign warning about the 1 year penalty for gun possesion. I lived in MA for a long time before I finally moved to Vermont. I remember those signs on routes 91, 95, 93, the Mass turnpike and other roads as you crossed the state border. Maybe they are not posted anymore but the attitude has gotten worse.

Gump: I'm in Groveland

LynnMassGuy: Thats the same thing I hear about Salem, the guy at the range said Peabody was the same way.

MA Gun laws suck

First there's the whole "may issue" thing. Which means that if you live somewhere where you actually need CCW -- Boston comes to mind -- you almost certainly can't get it. Especially if you are not a nice white middle class man.

Then there's the requirement to have a license to purchase mace or pepper spray. Now, I know they're not a lot of good, but at least a woman carrying mace has thought about the need to protect herself. She could well be open to upgrading her personal protection with a little education.

Thirdly, even if my CoP is willing to issue me a permit, as a resident alien I can't get one. I can get a C&R license or an FFL, but I can't get a MA permit of any sort.

Just as well I don't own any guns and think they're nasty dirty noisy dangerous things.

New Mass Poster

Even though this "Massachusetts" thread seems to have run its course, thought I'd say HI...I'm a new member here, been lurking for several months. I'm on North Shore also. Today is the first day I've posted here.

I have a Class A ALP and carry 23/7 (gotta shower sometime). Look forward to discussing local issues with you guys in the future. My business takes me in many politically correct settings which has forced me to a summer carry of a .32 Seecamp in a "wallet" front pocket holster. (Mass folks understand our limited choices on the compliant list)

I'm a southern transplant from 20+ yrs ago...grew up in LEO family with family farm of 1,000 acres....my first gun at age 12 was a Savage 22LR over .410 - if you misssed the squirrel with the bullet you got him with the shotgun.

Much different environment here in the land of Fat Ted, though I agree with earlier discussion that the laws are not as draconian (comparatively) as we bemoan. Having followed this year the Ohio CCW rollout in the news, we are not encumbered with the resrictions like visable carry in vehicles, store sign postings, publishing names and addresses of CCW in the newspaper AND, like many states, unable to carry in restaurants w/ liqour licenses.

It is certainly more the anti-gun culture that's an issue here. Look forward to comparing notes w/ others here in the Commonwealth.

Welcome! I lived in Beverly from 1994-2003, and in Danvers from 1982-1986. I finally got fed up with all the BS so I moved ten miles north of the border. It's good to hear from another North Shorer.
