went shooting for the first time in a while yesterday. I was a little rusty, but not horrible, but my sig was a little finicky.
its a reg alum frame model da/sa in .40 I bought used, an i have about 100rnds thru it myself.yesterday it would not feed the first round reliably. if i dropped the slide release it did not bring the slide closed and i would have to clear the round. it would feed if i racked the slide hard by hand. no malfunctions while shooting. the slide did not feel sticky or gritty.
sounds like i need a new recoil spring right? anything better than a factory replacement? I shoot 165gr exclusively.
thanks for your help

Excellent question and one I'd like to know the answer to as well. Somebody's going to ask this, might as well be me...
Were you using factory mags or aftermarket mags?

I was using factory 10 and 12 rnd mags. same effect on both. used lawman practice ammo and golden saber defense ammo. same effect.

Getting a new recoil spring sounds like a winner to me. I would blame the ammo, but Speer makes top quality stuff.

I usually tell people to buy Wolff springs unless they are for a Sig. The Sig factory braided springs are excellent and I would use those before anything else. If you think there is any chance the mag springs are questionable order those as well.

I have several Sigs and have been very disappointed with the Wolff springs for Sigs (although I use Wolff for everything else)...the Wolff springs for Sigs are all single coil vs. the multi-coil original equipment springs from Sig....at about the same price. I recommend going with the factory Sig springs. Give Customer Service a call and they will fix you up. Very friendly folks.

thanks for the responses folks. I'll get a sig spring. i don't know if i need mag springs, they seem tight and feed well to the last round. Love this pistol! :)

finlly got around to shooting again!!
here's an update on my sig 229:

I got the spring kit from Sigarms, includes the recoil spring and a few others.
I replaced only the recoil spring so far.
great! No more problems. Feeds every round top to bottom.
maybe its mental, but i also shot much better. 9 of ten bullsyes at 15 yds and 8 of ten on paper plate at 50 yds.
I can't imagine a pistol i would like more. except maybe a 229 sport :)
