I was given a Tasco scope of unknown age by someone who inherited hunting equipment and didn't want it.... and I'm trying to decide if it's worth mounting on my 10/22 for general purpose use. I'd like to get an opinion on the scope before I waste any time trying to mount and zero it if it's junk. The scope is, as I mentioned, a Tasco of unknown vintage, it's labeled in gold lettering on the eyebell "Tasco 4x32 Supercon coated Omni-View Opticentered" number 667V. It's got a machined center, a gloss black anodized tube, the lenses are both coated with a deep blue coating, and the optics are very clear and bright. The field of view is odd... it's sort of like a panoramic camera. It's wider than it is tall. It's clearly designed to be that way, but I've never seen a scope like this before. Does anyone have any past experiences good or bad with any Tasco scopes like this one?

Saw one earlier this month for sale on another forum for $45 shipped.

If you have a base/rings that fit, put it on your .22 and see how it works. If you spend more than a couple of dollars in ammo sighting it in, toss it as it is probably broke.

Destrux;

Some of the older Tasco's were decent units for the buck. But Q/C was always iffy. I'll second the suggestion to mount it & see. After all, if you mount any scope you're going to need the rings anyway, so why not?

Do try to find out what the parallax is though. Most .22 scopes are set for 50 yards, most centerfire scopes at 150 yards. That's not a hard & fast rule though, it can & does vary by manufacturer. In any case, parallax error can affect the accuracy, so it pays to know.
