Ok, ive decided that im going to start collecting .22's. So far I have:
-Late 70's Glenfield 60, given to me by my grandfather
-Walther G22
-Walther P22
-S&W M&P 15-22

Im going to end up with the following as well:
-GSG5
-GSG5PK
-GSG AK47
-Sig 522

Which one would you buy first? Or is there something else I need first?

it looks like you are enthralled with semi autos. there are much better out there. how about a remmy 24 or 241, that is a takedown model? how about a 241 shorts only model, that fires nothing but tiny quiet shorts, and can even do it with CB shorts? mine does. how about a remmy 550, with the famous Carbine William's floating chamber design, same as in the 30 carbine? how about a nice remmy 552 speedmaster, which in one tube, can alternately fire short, long, and long rifle, and do it with ease, and hold about 20 to 25 short rounds in one tube? that's just for the remmy's. How about a marlin 70 papoose, or papoose HC? which means, came with a high capacity mag? how about the old little browning take downs, which dropped empty cases straight down?

I never thought much of the gsg models, and parts for repair will be scarce, they are being sued out of business. plus the ' one screw holds everything in place forward of the receiver' design, would have me a bit worried.
How about a nice new remmy 597, about 150 bucks, then put together 2 side by side 30 rounder remmy mags. then go over to rimfirecentral, read the stickies at the top of the 597 page, to get it running right, pay 20 bucks for each new mag, then say a red dot, or grean laser. You will now have spent less than 300 bucks, on a semi that holds 60 rounds at 1 time; and the 597 aint going anywhere!!!

armscor has been doing an AR and an AK design for about 30 years now, and they are reliable, and cheaper than the gsg; also Jaeger Armii from italy has been doing some fantastic ar's and ak's for a while now, and are still cheaper than the gsg. their ak in 22 mag, is a work of art and reliable; hard to do anything in 22 mag, and semi auto, and use the word reliable with it.
And I hate to say it, but a ruger 10.22 or a ruger charger/ 10.22 pistol, with extended mags, i would take over a gsg. I just think they are overpriced, and are going bye-bye, and they will break down, and you will not be able to get parts for one. So if you get one, you really
better get two. And don't get the colt umarex either.
Oh yeah, hamerlii makes a superthick , heavy 22 sporter semi auto, with firefly sights; rifle is very heavy and substantial, and it is made with the 17 round tube. Which american companies cannot
make, but the hamerlii version has one. and they are under 200 bucks as well.
What you need to look for on your marlins as well, is one made between 85' and 88'. these are the grails of the mod 60's. Why? because they not only had the little lever on the right side of the trigger guard, which is a last shot bolt hold open lever, but they were also still made with the 17/18 round tube. so for 3 year period, the mod 60 had a 22 inch bbl, Last shot bho lever, and a tube which could hold 17 or 18 rounds. this is what you want.

If limited to your list, get the sig.

I think you have quite a few semi autos already and you should see a real potential of a 22 by trying a bolt action or a lever. The bolt action will possibly be much more accurate ,so if you feel like shooting some groups with a quality ammo ,you use the bolty. Lever tube fed 22s will shoot any length of ammo so you can plink in the backyard with cb caps or Aguila Colibri. And they are a lot of fun too.

You've already got a start on the 'tactical' 22's, but there's no variety, the spice of life. If all you are interested in are the ones listed, I have no idea sorry. But, I'll echo the earlier recommendations to get an accurate bolt action 22. For less than the GSG's you could get a Remington 513 or Mossberg 44 or 144. Both are military trainers and great rifles. A Russian URAL (CM-2) is crazy accurate. Winchester 75's, CZ452, the list goes on. If you have no interest in bolt actions now, they'll still be available when you are...and we all eventually start looking at accuracy as a factor.
Good luck

My friend you are missing two letters here: CZ! The best value in a .22 rifle today. All different barrel contours, even a Mannlicher full-stock style. With a $15 trigger upgrade and Wolf Match Target and my scope on 15x, CONSISTENT 1/2" 5-shot 50 yard groups. I paid $405 for my 452 Varmint. That's my recommendation.

my sons ruger 77 ss .22 rifle with a 1.5x4 leupold scope will shoot 1/2 in groups at 50yds. eastbank.

I have several old Remington 512 rifles, bolt action tube mag. Awesome accurate. Most of them 60+ years old. For semi I like my Marling 60. GSGs. . . . . there OK.

GSGs. . . . . there OK.
If okay is pure awesomeness! :D Mine is a blast to shoot, and while the OP has other .22s to fill the same roll, I have found this to be the most fun .22lr that I have owned or played with, and he said he wants to eventually get one anyway. So if that is the case, now is the time, they'll be no more [imported].

That is not to knock the Rem. 512, Marlin M-60, CZ 452, Anschutz, Savage Mk. II, or Ruger 10-22. All of the above, are good rifles as well, and many have distinct advantages (including price, accuracy, and/or parts/upgrades/accessories) over the GSG-5...but IMO, fun little plinker isn't one of them.

:)

If you are entertaining bolt actions, I couldn't agree more with a CZ, Ideally the 453 Varmint. VERY VERY accurate and a good place to shoot the ammo that your semis wont function with.

But, if you want to stick with tactical .22s I'd get a SIG. I heard great things about them and they are very well made.

I purchased a GSG5SD because they were stopping importation and because I've always wanted a .22 MP5. The quality however doesn't even begin to compare with my Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22. It is also a huge pain in the butt to clean. But if you want to have a well rounded tactical .22 collection I guess you have to own one and prices won't be this low on them for long. You could always buy the SIG latter.

For the Jewel of your collection though, I'd build a dedicated .22 AR.

I'd suggest a Spike's dedicated .22

You can add a .223/5.56 (or other caliber) upper on the Spike's setup and have a multi-caliber weapon platform.

I'll vote for the GSG-5SD.
Just picked on up last week.
Feels right at home with the WASR-22 and a deticated
22 upper on a Double Star lower.
BUT Get the PK and SBR it.
NY doesn't allow SBR's,but some day i'll move and find one.

If you really are into semi-auto 22s, why don't you have a Ruger 10/22? The most extensible 22 rifle by far. You can literally make anything with it, from a bench-rest tack driver to a tacticool AR-wannabe.

no one recommended the 12 gauge hornet round for a tactical .22?
i can't seem to find pics right now but basically it was an orange 12 gauge shell that held either 9 or 12 (cant remember which) .22lr and a large pistol primer! can you say Buckshot?

I'm with the 10/22. you can do anything with them from a stock rifle to a krinker plinker or an ar reciever to a dragonov. I got mine for 60 bucks with bad wood and got a houge overmold stock and a .920 20'' barrel and I can do better than 1/2'' at 50yrds with cci rounds all day.

You already have a great traditional .22 semiauto (the Marlin), a couple of good "black rifle" .22s, and a fun toy .22 pistol.

A GSG really has nothing to offer you but a waste of money. You already have better guns.

I'd suggest a few possibilities:

1. One or more decent .22 handguns (Ruger, Browning, Smith and Wesson)
2. .22 lever rifle (Marlin 39)
3. .22 bolt rifle (CZ or high-end, and the CZ is probably as good as any high-end "sporter" until you get above a grand)

All of those have something to offer, that's different from what you already own.:)

I think ArmedBear is giving you some good advice there. You really can't go wrong with any of those suggestions. But I would like to add one that is often overlooked, the Remington 572.
