Well, I think I might finally have my press on the way etc.

Now, I need to figure out what components to order to reload .308 and .45 rounds.

So, could you guys post what you use as well as where you typically buy each component from?

Thanks for helping me out.

I can't help you with the 45 but my all time favorite 308 load is 45 grains of IMR 4064 with a CCI 200 primer pushing a 150 grain Speer flat base spitzer. I don't own a chronograph but the speer book posts that load at approx. 2750 fps. I've killed quite a few deer with that load and never felt it was underpowered. I believe you can push a 150 grain bullet 100 to 200 fps faster but I can't think of a reason to do so. It's a wonderfully accurate load that seems to work well in different rifles and actions. I buy my cases and bullets on line at Midway USA. The powder and primers will cost you more on line because of the extra charge for shipping "hazardous materials" so I would suggest you buy them locally. You can sometimes get a better deal if you buy quantity. So check with a few friends maybe you can combine an order.
Good Shooting!

I like Varget and 168 gr Sierra match kings. For 45 acp I like Autocomp, or Unique and 230 gr LRN.

Take a look at Powder Valley Inc. on line for components...good selection and great prices. But when you get ready to buy components, shop around...sometimes places will put items on sale and have slightly better prices.

My favorite .308 load is 42.5 to 43 grains of Reloader 15 behind a Sierra 175 grain Matchking, CCI #34 primer in Lake City brass, but you should use your load data book to develop your own loads. Any loads that other folks such as myself offer may not perform as well in your rifle as they do in ours, so use them only as a guide line and check them against your load data book to be sure they are safe.

Lots of guys (me included) are using HP38 / WW231 in 45ACP with a 200gr lead SWC or 230gr lead RN bullets. I buy my powder & primers locally, bullets are from Missouri Bullet (don't forget the THR discount code.)

Keeping it simple

45 ACP
Brass: Whatever
Primer: Whatever
Powder: Clays 4.1 grains
Bullet: 200-grain plated SWC at 1.23" COAL or
Bullet: 200-grain plated round nose at 1.28" COAL

.308 Winchester (Full-On Serious Bidness)
Brass: Lake City
Primer: CCI
Powder: Varget 44 grains
Bullet: Sierra SMK 175 at 2.8" COAL

.308 Winchester (Easy Peasy 50-200 Yards)
Brass: Whatever
Primer: Whatever
Powder: H4895 35 to 40 grains
Bullet: Any 100-grain or 110-grain "varmint" bullet

.308 Winchester (Corgi-Fart Load)
Brass: Sure, brass is good
Primer: Definitely recommended
Powder: Trail Boss 12 grains
Bullet: Whatever fits in the hole

These are the four loads that keep me busy at the range 95% of the time.

Email me at 10897driver@gmail and I will give you all the verified data available if you like.

My best .308 target load is 42gr RL-15 under a 168gr Sierra Match King with CCI BR2 primers in my Rem 700 and 41.0 gr of RL-15 under the same bullet for my M1A Supermatch.

I'd recommend you get the manual for the bullet manufacturer you prefer and the Hornady manual for Service Rifle loads. Sierra recommends an "Accuracy" load and a "Hunting" load for each of their bullets, as appropriate (they do not recommend using MatchKings for Hunting)...I always start there when working up a new rifle caliber. Lyman recommends an "Accuracy" load for each bullet and weight in their 49th edition, but their bullet selection is limited. I always start at the starting load.

Good luck,

FH

I like WST best with the 45 acp. It shoots extremely clean, low recoil, accurate, and fill the case nicely. http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

I use 4grs of Bullseye with CCI primers under a 200gr LSWC in the 45. Shoots 4 MOA from my pistols and revolvers.

I use 44.4grs of Varget with CI BR primers under a 168gr A-Max in the 308. Shoots .5 MOA from my Remmy.

I buy my components locally.
