Need Romanian TTC Tokarev Firing Pin

I took the firing pin out of my TTC after today's range session, something I do about every time I open a new spam can of 7.62x25 ammo and noticed the firing pin was broken into two pieces. Had no issues at the range today, while its possible it broke on the last shot fired, I'm impressed that it continued to fire.

My question is will this firing pin be a replacement?

They don't list any parts available under the TTC heading, but I found a nice parts diagram and this firing pin under the 1930 heading, will it work for me?

At $18 + shipping I'd rather be sure instead of just hope for the best.

Most Tokarev parts are interchangeable. I have a Chinese chrome-lined barrel in my Romanian TTC. You're good to go.

Got the replacement from Numrich (gunpartscorp.com), problem is its approx 1/8" shorter than my original (I have both pieces of the broken one so its easy to compare). Since I noticed that the cutout for the retainer pin is also about 1/8" wider than my original the net protrusion comes out about the same, so I figured I'd give it a try.

Unfortunately the gun doesn't fire and the primers are barely dented. I've sent an Email to Numrich asking if they have a longer one, if they don't, should I look for a shorter/weaker firing pin spring or just cut about 1/8" off my firing pin spring in hopes of getting primer ignition?

We've got our gigantic HGCA gun show this Saturday, maybe I'll get lucky and find a replacement.

No.
Find the correct firing pin.
That model TOK does not have an inertia friing pin, so if it is too short, it is too short.

A soft or short spring could compromise drop safety, or even cause slam firing.

Numrich didn't answer my Email, and I lost all patience trying to get through to them on the phone

So I pulled some bullets to make empty primed cases to see if I could make the inertial firing pin work. Fail. I left my original firing pin spring un-touched as I had several other firing pin springs that happened to be the correct diameter that I could play with.


I noticed that if I cut the inertial firing pin at the forward edge of its retaining notch, and then cut the broken pin at the shoulder right were the spring sits the two pieces were about exactly the overall length of the original pin and joined up at the same diameter. The spring would push both pieces back and the retaining notch would hold both pieces in.

What I did that seems to work fine -- all the primed empty cases fired, and none slam fired (including the poorly struck ones form the inertial tests) when dropped into the chamber and let the slide slam home.

This new "two piece" fining pin at least gets me shooting again. Time will tell how well it holds up. Hopefully long enough for the proper replacement to be back in stock.

Unfortunately not all TT-33 variant parts are the same.

Works great so far!

Here is my "two piece" Tokarev firing pin made from the rear section of the broken original and the front section of the too short "inertial" replacement Numrich foisted on me. I cut down a Wolf extra power firing pin spring from an EAA Witness to give about the same force as the original spring (which I've set aside for when I find a proper replacement firing pin) when the pin is at full excursion forward.

Ran 224 rounds of Romanian surplus and had zero failures to fire. Usually with this ammo I'd have at least one that needed a second strike in this many rounds, often two or three, which is why I'd stocked up on the Polish surplus instead.

I don't see any signs of peening where the two pieces mate and only a little wear on the cold blue where my cuts weren't quite flat. I looked a about 20 random empties and didn't find any pierced primers either.

Overall I'm very satisfied with having gotten this pistol back in action with my field expedient gunsmithing.

Follow up.

Its been a few months, Still haven't found a proper replacement firing pin, but my two piece solution made from the broken original and the too short replacement is working well.

Opened another can of the Polish surplus yesterday, over 1300 rounds through it and the only misfires were a pair in the last 300 rounds I had of the Romanian surplus (which is about what it did with the original firing pin).

I'm impressed. Thanks Wally. While it's certainly possible to make a new pin, since this works and it's safe, may eventually have to use this idea on another gun.
