I have not to long ago moved to a pasture with more coyote and hogs than I care for and long story short I have decided to keep a cheap rifle in my truck to aid in their extermination.

I have a old 270 Savage 110 that I think will fit the bill quiet well. I paid next nothing for it and don’t care about it at all. Problem is it doesn’t have a scope. The longest possible shot in pasture would close to 500 yards, and theirs a bottom in the pasture that stays wet a good bit of the year so 300-400 yard shots would probably be the norm. I live on one side of the bottom and the woods the hogs seem to come out of are on the other side.

Another thing to mention is we have cattle in the pasture, so their will be no late evening/ low light shooting. Don’t want to mistake a calf for a pig, I know people who’ve done it.

I’d normally just go buy me another Leupold but I really don’t want to put that much money in a rifle that’ll be living in my truck.
So if you guys could recommend me a $250ish scope that’s got fairly decent magnification I’d really appreciate it.

You can get a Leupold VX-Freedom for about $200 if you stay with a standard reticle. It is pretty close to the old VX-2 in quality. That is about the least expensive scope I'd recommend. Sometimes you can find the Burris FF-II discounted closer to $160, but it retails for the same as a Leupold.

Anything much less expensive would probably be a waste of money.

I have to say I do like the Leupold‘s, been using them for years and have several they’re just all old. I haven’t bought a new scope in probably close to 20 years. With the exception of a couple rimfire scopes. And when I do buy them I normally spend a good chunk of change. Always lived by the “spend at least as much on the optic as the gun” mentality. In this case I think I gave $100 for the gun.

I will look into the Burris as well.

There is always the option of going pre-owned.

I buy all my Leupold scopes second hand. They have a good warranty so I am not worried about problems. Just have to look out for counterfeits.
