4X bushnell wal-mart scope

RE: wal mart 4x bushnell scope. i bought one, installed it on my Stevens 66C bolt 22 rifle(at least 50 years old) and it will drive big head tacks out to 50 yds+. I shoot Rem and Win Bulk ammo because that is what it groups the best!!

Budget stuff is fine in terms of the "massive" recoil on a .22 rifle. Where it falls down is in the image quality and light gathering in dim conditions.

For the image quality you'll notice that edges can sometimes be colour smeared in the center and worse around the edges. It can make it hard to get a good aim on a small critter at your maximum distance. It also generate eye fatigue during range sessions as your eye keeps trying to focus out the fuzziness. I know because I've used a cheap scope and gotten tired eyes quickly during my range visits.

So be sure you get to look thru the NCStar before you buy. And compare it to the next grade up so you can see what you are settling for before you lay your money down.

Having said that I would expect that for the distances you are workign with that a fixed 4x32 would look pretty nice and in scale with the compactness of your rifle. And 4x is easily enough to hit the little tree rats or other small game at out to around 50 to 75 yards.

I scored an almost new Bushnell Elite last night for mine. Need rings for it....does the rifle come with a rail on it? The pics I've seen say "yes".

Thanks BCRider -- you give good advice.

PGT -- Good score. Yes, it has a picatinny rail on top.

I just got the go ahead from the boss that I can buy something this cheap. I just placed the order for the NCStar from Amazon. I will get it tomorrow and will pick up some rings from Walmart. I'll let you all know how it turns out and post some pictures.

you need the go ahead to spend $40?? I broke my wife of that habit LONG ago. LOL. She just stacks boxes by the front door when they come in...never says a word. She does curse at me when its a case of ammo as she tries to lift it not realizing its heavy for the small size. :p

it is funny on any forum when a guy says he a money limit on a scope the scopes recommended are way more then what he has lol. if the guys says he has 3000 for a scope some guy will show him one for 5000. the OP sounds like a young guy and with young eyes the tasco bushnell nc star will be ok for him. he does not need a space size hubbel telescope on a .22 like some guys have

Got the scope attached and shot some rounds outside tonight. Decent scope and with a bright flashlight held under the forearm I could take shots easy. It grouped 2 shots offhand -- although off center. I will try to dial it in this weekend during daylight.

Thanks for the help!

As Centurian stated; I have a centerpoint Walmart special 4-16x40 AO Mildot reticle, can be lighted in red or green, for $69. it sits on a 10/22 magnum. For the price and purpouse it suits me very well, on a rimfire.

you might try a 2x pistol scope. those have lots of eye relief (so you might need to mount it far forward of where you expect) and tend to be very clear and good for short-range work.

Otherwise I really like my Mueller APV out to 50 yards on 4.5x

PorkChopsMmm:

Where did you find that dandy little picatinny rail for your Savage? My Savage Mk II is one of the few rifle I have that does not have a rail. I have been meaning to remedy that deficit, but haven't been able to locate one. Thanks for the info.

DIP also sells a nice one.

PorkChops...is that a dummy suppressor or a real one? I'd like to pick up a fake one because to me, the FVSR is very short and looks odd.

tuj -- Thanks, yeah the one that comes stock on this one is EGW.

PGT -- it is a real SilencerCo SS Sparrow stainless steel suppressor. Can handle .17, .22 LR and Mag, and 5.7.

I think I might add a sling to the rifle and call it complete.

That setup looks like a lot of fun. About how much does a suppressor like that cost?

Porkchops...The overall scope size compliments your .22 nicely.

Fwiw PGT I just ordered a DIP Picatinny rail for my Marlin 60.

Thanks Heeler. I think I am going to move the front ring forward a notch for aesthetic and balance reasons by other than that she is good to go.

Medium Weaver brand from Walmart. ~$10. Should have called that out... it was hard to figure it out from reviews because no one mentioned it.

I think flip up scope caps would be great but I am unsure if I have the clearance between the scope and the rail.
