Here's the catch, they will be used primarily for loading and shooting a crossbow. These are an absolute must:

1) Large size
2) Full finger coverage (because the string on the crossbow bites hard)
3) No need for insulation for warmth, just needs a good reinforced surface on the underside of the fingers
4) I will occasionally use it for firing my rifles and shotgun. Would be nice if I could retain dexterity to load a 12g magazine with the gloves on.

Anything better than these 5.11s?

I can't say they are better, but look at the Taclite 2 glove.

The glove is thin leather with a stretch nylon backing with Velcro at the wrist.
I use them trap shooting and no problem handling shells or operating the guns.

Get a pair of polyester and leather Wells-Lamont work gloves at WalMart. They're inexpensive ($10), padded where you need it, and hold up well enough for working on cars. Good tactile feel too. They have a long velcro strap that works great, but tend to hold sweat during hard work.

I use batting gloves for all my regular shooting, but they're kind of light for a crossbow. Wouldn't you want to use a set of "fingers"... the leather fingertip covers that a regular archer uses when drawing a standard bow? Those should work really well.

I considered archery gloves but my crossbow has two pistol grips, so I want a full pair of gloves.

I don't shoot cross bows. But I use shooting gloves some times. Go to Harbor Freight and check out the work gloves. I have used these for years.

Sheesh...wish I had read this before driving home to South Carolina for the holidays.

The Navy Exchange used to sell some nice, black leather uniform gloves. I like them because I could get my gloved trigger finger comfortably through the trigger guards of my guns.

If they still sell the same ones, I've been intending to pick up a pair again. We're talking less than $20, if they have them. I'll get backnto you after the New Year.

I'm not sure about the crossbow, but I like Past gloves for big bore pistols.
+1 on the mechanics gloves, Harbor Freight are actually some of the best..........go figure.

Yes,I Like the pads that protect the back of my hands. When shooting guns with heavy recoil from a rest these are great. The Harbor Freight gloves provide great protection.

Thanks, Chief!

No problem.

What size hands do you have?

EDIT

Just reviewed...you said "large". If they still sell the ones I'm thinking of, I'll PM you for an address and send you a pair. Since I'll be buying several pairs for myself and some brothers, I'll send you a couple sizes and you can pick the pair that fits best.

Probably be a week or two into January.

Thanks Chief

Although judging by these hatch Specialist gloves in size large, I probably need Extra Large, because Large doesn't fit!

"...want a full pair of gloves..." Paid $25Cdn.($17.69US today), years ago, for a pair of deer skin gloves I use for a Horse bow that has no arrow rest. No loss of dexterity. Home Depot, et al, carry 'em.

Mechanix M-pact tactical gloves. Low to mid $20's. Lowe's and Menards carry them near me, not sure on Home Depot.

Mechanix makes several models. They are snug fitting, I like them for work and play.

I use them in colder weather for hunting with my recurve bow.

I ordered mine from amazon

OK, Odd Job. PM me your address.

I have two pairs of gloves to send you. The Navy Exchange still sells the ones I used to buy, which I had no problems with when I went hunting with a shotgun years ago. "Premium deerskin", they are!

One is Medium, the other Large. The Exchange also has Extra Large, but that might be a bit much.

I tried these on, just to make sure they didn't have a seam or something in an uncomfortable spot.

EDIT:

If you do end up needing Extra Large after trying these, lemme know.
