1-I want to mount a new scope on a rem 572 pump for hunting ranges from 10 yds to 100yds. I am looking for a very wide field of view such as offered in 1x4 power scopes for shotguns or 22s. my budget is $150 range or less. I hunt nutria and many shots are within 30yds some 100yds.

2-Does BDC work well at 75 to 100yds with 22LR hollow pts. will it help for 100yd shots? do i really need BDC for these ranges??

3- any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

4- i am looking at Nikon P-22, Redfield TAC-22, weaver 2.5x7, various shotgun scopes 1x4, 1x5 Konus shotgun scope or the like.

5- What is the purpose of a circle x reticle?, i usually use a duplex reticle,

6- my eyes(63 yrs old) are not too sharp on open sights over 30 yds, i do much better on the longer shots with a scope.

I have used a Nikon 3-9 prostaff bdc on my 10/22 and it works real well. I had to spend a decent amount of time at the range to figure it out across the spectrum of 10-100, but with a 50 yd zero I get approx 7" of drop at 100 if I remember correctly. The bdc I have works pretty well. I also noticed though at 100yds with supersonic ammo my groups open up big time, 5-6 inches. At 75 yds I am still about 2" per group.

Z7,

i have noticed a similar 7 inch drop at 100 yds also. i have more shots less than 50 yds than long shots that is why i want a scope with the widest field of view possible at close range. 3x9 is too much magnification, i am looking for a 1x3 or 1x4 scope.

Something to remember on those BDC scopes, with a second focal plane reticle like most of the "hunting" scopes on the market, the subtentions are usually only accurate at full magnification. This could present a problem while squirrel hunting if you have to quickly swing the scope to full power and try to find the squirrel before the little booger moves again. It's not at all impossible, just another hurdle to consider. The center of the reticle should always be correct.

I've heard good things about those little Nikon rimfire scopes. They're a good bargain, if the reviews are accurate.
