Would like your advice about a scammer operating on GB. Watched him for a long time. Finally bid on an item and won. The initial communication was ok, but abrupt, which I understand because this guy is really, really very busy. But then things got a little weird – he instructed me to send the money to him at one address, the item arrived about a week later from a different address in another state 500 miles away, and when I tell him that it is not "as advertised" he told me to send it to a third address in yet another state. I got my money back, but I learned that the item was sold to another person who bought it under questionable circumstances. Since then, I've followed this guy on-line and have run into him in-person at a couple of gun shows. At various times he has publically claimed: 1) he didn't have an FFL, 2) he did have an FFL, 3) he had several "partners" who were also dealers "picking" for him at countless shows across the country, 4) he never went west of the Mississippi River, 5) he regularly attended shows in Colorado, 6) etc, etc, etc. I also discovered that he used at least one other name to drive up the prices on his items on GB. This person has over two hundred purchases and all but one are from this guy! Today I found proof of shill bidding and selling when this guy posted a picture of an item held in a hand and then this shill bidder posted a different item but it was held in the same hand with the same scar! There is no doubt that these two sellers are really the same person. This guy is selling hundreds of thousands of dollars of stuff every year under questionable circumstances. My question to you is -- what should I do, if anything?

If this should be under the heading "Scams and Scam Sites, I apologize and please move it. Thank you.

Yeah I think you should contact GunBroker plus Leave a Bad Review in GunBroker let them know he is scamming people

His business practices are definitely dishonest. But I doubt gunbroker will do anything about it. He did give you your money back, I would call it a win and avoid buying anything else from him. It worked out this time but next time you might not be so lucky. Contact the ATF and explain what you found. They might not do anything either but there's a chance they'll be interested in someone doing what he's doing. At least he'll get logged and start if not add to his "file".

I don't think that violates any GunBroker policy, but sounds like he's brokering firearm sales. That means he needs an FFL.

The shipper could have been a nonlicensee. If so, you could not lawfully return it to that person, but to his FFL.

If you have his name and address its not difficult to find out if he holds an FFL.

Just report him to GB.
