NEF smokeless into a muzzleloader

I don't know about the rest, but I would sure as heck be nervous about carrying loose 209 primers around in a film canister.

Ok 1 post good enough

As cool as it seems. Its pretty darn dangerous. If you ever load 12 guage shells you know the primer is about what 1/4 long and sticks in the shell pretty good. Now to close the breach then pour the powder down the barrel and a wad. No problem. BUT to then use a ram rod to compress the powder against that primer. Well thats pretty much where i would draw the line

Yes indeed. You aren't legally making the breech loader into a muzzleloader, as the regs in the states say the gun or rifle must be loaded from the muzzle, not may or was loaded from the muzzle. So a Sharps rifle or a Ferguson, or a Hall, though black powder arms, are NOT legal for use in muzzleloading seasons because of the breech. Add to that the risk, and again you might as well load a BP shell with shot or slug.

First of all, That is not a new idea, there was a manufacturer of breech plugs for single shot, shotguns back in the late 80's, they made a plug that held a shotgun primer, then load into the breech so you could then front stuff your powder and shot(or slug).

The Ohio d.n.r. ruled them illegal for muzzle loading season due to the fact that you could easily change back to shotgun in the field.

I told a guy I worked with about them and he picked up an h&r topper 12ga., made a breech plug and welded it in place, and built it up from there, (no turning back) now it was legal and as far as I know, he still hunts with it.

flash forward 20 years. well at least 4 years ago i think. before h&r got bought out they made a drop down muzzleloader. Same as the drop down 12 guage but using a 209 primer screw in breach plug. made in several calibers. i was thinking about buying one then they were bought out. same time cabelas could not keep them in stock they sold so fast.
