Apparently the neighbor responded, along with some others to the alarm call and aided the police. First off, I am not endorsing doing this kind of thing. Mostly I posted it because the guy has a Desert Eagle .50 AE... seriously... for home defense? wow... I mean wow...

Sounds Russian and seems like he has had a couple of drinks.

Does anyone else think that the kind of gun one grabs / keeps close / in situations like these identifies them as a Tackleberry / wannabe?

Like it or not, if the person doing the shooting can make rounds connect, who cares if they used a plain jane G17 or a gold Tiger striped Desert Eagle in .440 Cor-Bon?

In this case the guy didn't have to actually shoot the offender, but it seems to have worked out pretty well.

If he'd shot him he couldn't claim self defense. He still might be looking at charges. He pursued a man that ran away without his gun. Remember folks - our guns are for DEFENSE. Once you run off chasing people who are fleeing a scene your justifications are getting on shaky ground. The fact that the perp ran into another backyard might be this guy's saving grace.

50 cal. , this guy is all about the numbers. I'll just say his heart was in the right place!
I don't think he's drunk or foreign, HE'S DEAF FROM SHOOTING THE 50 CAL. WAD JAH SHAY!
Could you imagine if he was fired upon and then he started letting lose with the 50 in a neighborhood, very lucky this time!!!!
I don't want to be any where around this super-hero in a public place and he takes matters into his own hands and decides to play the Punisher.
I'm glad things worked out well this time.

Definitely Russian/Polish/former Soviet state or other relative origin.

Does not strike me as showing signs of intoxication. That is all too often erroneously assumed from all kinds of physical and vocal characteristics.

The warning shot was not such a good idea, but this all worked out obviously.

And he specifically stated that he followed because the perp fled into an elderly woman's yard. Specifically a woman who most likely could not have defended herself. Now, I do not advocate firearm owners going after bad guys, but in this instance I completely understand and might have myself...however, firing a warning shot would most likely not be part of my game plan.

Hey, ya try armed robbery, you get stiff-armed and possibly deafened by a guy in boxers with a .50AE...I bet that criminal wasn't expecting that turn of events.

I think he acted responsibly. Warning shots are generally frowned on , but in thhis case he shot into the ground so no collateral damage(good thinking). I'll bet the concussion from the blast had some effect on the robber! Psychologically if not physically. I dare say others called 911 after hearing that blast also.

Bullets bounce. You can aim straight into the ground and still hit something or someone a block away.

Highly unlikely unless he shot at the ground far enough away that the angle was so shallow as to reflect. Generally if a round goes into the ground at a 45 or less angle it's not going to come back up. It'll either pass through smaller stones and soil or it'll hit something large and fragment with the spray of jacket and lead trying to extend out along the face of the rock it hits.

Disagree. He defended himself and then defended his neighbor, having ample evidence to reasonbly think the perp would do to the neighbor and the perp had done to him.

Of course, any jury could go either way. That's why folks who think rightly need to serve on juries.

Where did you guys get the idea that's a Deagle?

It's obviously a Podbyrin 9.2 mm semi auto. Specifically the compact tactical model.

This was very popular amongst the high speedsky low dragsky KGB operators of the late 1980s. This pistol was developed at the Smelyensk Skonksworsksy for use in Afghanistan where the KGB Makarov was being out ranged by the Taliban surplus SMLEs;)

Good for him....he feared for the well being of a friend and did something about it.....and he helped get a criminal off the streets....

He helped a neighbor, It's not as if he was sitting around listening to a scanner and running off to be batman.

Hey, it is an older upscale suburb of Houston (suburb may not be the right word, as it is completely surrounded by the city of Houston). As chance has it my wife has a 90 year old grand mother that lives there along with her uncle and a cousin, she has lived in the same house there for over 40 years, maybe 50.

Just be double sure that the arriving PD or sheriff officer does not mistake you for the BG and remove the threat.:what: They would not immediately know who is who when arriving and could ruin your day for sure.:scrutiny:
