A couple weeks ago, I walked into the bedroom after work and on the bed was my very own Ruger 10/22 all weather model, a bx25 magazine and 200 rounds of Gemtec (?) Subsonic ammo. The wife had watched me fondle the very one on a few different trips to the lgs and decided to buy it for me. I had all but made up my mind to get one, she just sped up the process.

Since I've had the rifle, I've shot a variety of ammo and have hardly had an trouble. I started with the subsonic in my parents backyard and was surprised that all 200 rounds fired with out a hitch. I did really get a chance to shoot

Next, I took it to the indoor range with 550 rounds of federal bulk and Remington gold bullets. I did most of my shooting at 15 - 25 yards and managed to keep decent groups. Every round but two fired without any issues. The two that did not fire were both Remingtons and both had an indentation. My Lovell indoor range does not allow rapid fire so all shots were double taps and slow fire.

This morning, I can't you to my in laws house with 600 rounds of federal bulk, cci mini mags and Winchester. This time I had the opportunity to shoot at further distances than 25 yards and rapid fire. I had two double feeds out of the 100 Winchesters I fired and everything else went off with no issues.

I love everything about the gun except the sights. I'll definitely be replacing them with something like the Williams fire sights and maybe add at an optic later. There are actually a few other mods I'd also like to make but in the mean time, the gun is great stock. Here are some pics...

You wil enjoy it. Bought mine used 3 years ago. Replace the extractor, and shoot it till she malfunctions, clean, and keep going. Great little .22.

Congratulations on your new rifle.
It's hard not to like a 10/22. An all around perfect do all 22. They must be shot often to truly appreciate them.... And not.
A VQ hammer will take care of most of you trigger issues. When that BX mag starts acting up (and it probably will) there is an easy fix.

I don't know about finding 22 ammo, but Cabelas has the BX25's on sale for $21.99 through Sept. 29th. I almost bought some at Midway way back about a year ago for that price, till everything disappeared...lately they've been closer to $40 than $21.99. I'm taking that as a good sign.

Thanks for the replies and the heads up on the mag sale. I've been successful in getting ammo in both va and md, at reasonable prices as well.

Sappy,

What will happen to my bx mag and what's the fix. I've been using my bx25 mag almost exclusively and have had no issues.

Rear peep

I have one that is scoped and it will outshoot my best intentions anyday !.

But the one that I put a peep sight on [ rear scope mount -tapped hole ] is THE fun gun to play AND target shoot.

Might be just me,but peep sights make me look good at the range.

Congrats and welcome to the club! I bought my first 10/22 30-35 years ago. I was dumb enough to allow a friend to talk me out of it. Wasn't happy until I picked up another.
Several years ago, Midway had a sale on a fajen stock and an Adams and Bennett barrel. Amazing! I have a 8" gong at 185yds and can ring all day long as long as there is no wind. One of my favorites. Hope this one becomes one of yours.

There is a bit of slop in the follower (was in my 2), that is easily taken care of by cutting 22 shells down and placing it in the follower to take up the extra space in the mag body. It's an easy fix.
Never had a single issue with the standard 10 round mags.
Check out rimfire central if you can. Good stuff there for10/22 s

Does your wife have an unmarried sister?
^^^^ A new Ruger 10/22 is a lot cheaper than a new woman.

Nice pick up man, I love my 10/22. Beware though. These things are the male Barbie and can get out of hand quickly, lol

I installed a Williams peep sight (WGRS-RU-22 with the WGB gold bead) on my Mannlicher-stocked 10-22 and really like the set-up. A receiver sight keeps the trim and compact lines of a 10-22 intact and makes for a superb handling carbine for squirrel hunting.

You've got a keeper, and I'm not talking about the rifle, though it's a good one, too. Enjoy!!

If you want iron sights, check into Tech Sights. They sit a little higher, but they're a thousand times better than factory.

I've owned a 10-22 stainless for several years. After figuring out early-on that I needed to occasionally remove the bolt and clean and lube, it's worked flawlessly with all ammuntion I've tried. I did install a VQ hammer, which dropped the trigger pull to a crisp 2.5#. Recently had the barrel threaded and will be shooting suppressed soon...I hope. Been waiting 8 months on tax stamp.

I recently bought 1000 rounds of Gemtech subsonic. I sure won't be using it for anything BUT suppressed fire, as I had to pay $98 for the 1k rounds. ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys...

My wife finally got a chance to shoot it and I was impressed. She was picking off cans from roughly 40 yards away using the iron sights and no support. While it may not seem like that big a deal, she has never as much as shoulderd the rifle before this weekend. Her dad did teach her how to shoot young, I guess it's like riding a bike. Anyways, she likes it so much she wants to make it her hD rifle. But that's another topic all together.

Congrats on the 10/22. Its an excellent rifle. I've owned one before. I highly recommend adding an optic, either a Red dot or a Magnified scope. It will help you see the targets better since the factory sights are not the best.

If you just want some basic optics on the cheap, I recommend a couple choices:
- CenterPoint Red dot: $30 at Walmart
- Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 with 6-inch eye Relief: $80 on Amazon.

I've owned both and it has worked well on my 10/22. The red dot allows you to acquire your targets much faster, while the scope allows you to see out to 100yards or more.

I obsessed over all of the little upgrades and things you can do with your 10/22. Most of them aren't really worth bothering. But the one thing that I did do to my 10/22 was to put on the Hogue overmold stock. I really like it. Once I scoped it with the new stock, it feels really good and steady.

OH boy! you got a good one! After wanting one for years, I finally got my Deluxe model a couple of Christmases ago.
Due to failing eyesight, and in the True Spirit Of Never Leaving Well-Enough Alone, I added a Weaver 4X Rimfire scope, installed a Volquartsen target hamnmer, which lowered the trigger pull from a weight that took my trigger pull gauge's pointer off the scale, and would lift my puppy off the ground, hooked to his harness, to ~3 pounds.

While it was apart, I polished the internals, and added a bolt buffer, and coverted the bolt release to the auto release configuration.

THEN, I went shooting with my son and grandson. Noooo problemo getting it broken in, especially after I brought out the BX-25 magazine! Hoo Boy! Those guys go through an amazing amount of ammo! But, they even let me shoot it some, and the break-in is DONE! :D
Used to read in the gunzines that acceptable accuracy for the 10-22 was "squirrel head at 50 yards", and mine achieves that with most of the ammo I tested it with. It cycles subsonics without a hiccup.
That's all the gun I need, but...I have been looking at a beautiful Marlin 60...

I can resist most everything but temptation!;)

But...I'd like to get another, and put the Thompson sub machine gun conversion kit on it. Hmmmm...
