Okay, finally settle down and took a few photos of the KTR-03V.

I waited for this carbine from Marc Krebs for 4 months, but it was well worth it. During my joy, I had forgotten to take a photo of the internals, especially the rear sight as I know there will be quite a few questions on the mobility. sorry, maybe next time.
Note the thumb safety on the left side of the pistol grip ala Galil on the second photo. This carbine comes in 3 calibers, .223, 7.62x39 and 5.45x39. Mine is the .223 version
IMO, this carbine as everthing a Galil/Valmet has and maybe more, okay maybe except the folding stock and bottle opener, but hey, wait until Sept 14th! I heard an adapter is already made for the angled rear receiver:

I've been lusting after a KTR-03S in 7.62x39 myself...never seen a picture of one from the left side...wonder if those have the thumb selector as well. And I definitely like the AK-74 style brake better than the M-16 style.

Something I'd really love to hear about in the range report: how hazardous is the uncovered (as far as I can see) gas tube? Does it heat up and get bumped easy?

Now, if only I can keep my weakness for C&R rifles from interfering with my quest for a Krebs EBR...

Nice carbine and carpet too:D May I ask, hoiw much do those carbines generally run? Is there a really good gun shop in FL that offers them? Thanks, Tim

thats the first ak I've seen that I've thought, "gee, I'd like to own that". Mainly because of the better sights.

Does the safety on the left side operate independently of the safety on the right? Do you have to have both safeties in the "fire" position to go, or is the one on the right welded in place?

The thumb saftey actuates the normal AK safety. You can use either, at least you could on the KTR's I have held, .308 and .223.

I was worried that it would require an immense amount of force to move that big honkin' AK safety with your thumb but it works like a dream.

I have two VEPRs and would love to pick up a KTR.

After getting some trigger time behind an AK and my AR-15s this weekend, I can more fully appreciate this critter. The AK reliability with AR sights and safety . . . sounds like the best of both worlds.

I am getting ready to order the Saiga .223 from my local retailer for $249 with shipping.

The rear sight looks great, how does krebs attach it to the action cover, and how do you keep it from shifting as the cover gets worn from removal and replacement?

Did they have to do much work to convert it to use the high cap magazines?

I dont think I will go with the pistol grip on mine since I have a saiga .308 and the length of pull on the rifle stock is great for me, but I would like to put a peep on mine and adapt it to take the high caps.

Thanks

Available from www.redstararms.com - with this, you can drop the magazine with your trigger finger. Would probably speed up magazine changes quite a bit.

I really think the KTR needs a Galil style charging handle, (one that sticks up 90* to the bolt) so you can manipulate the charging handle with your left hand without turning the rifle on it's side. A last shot bolt hold open would be nice too...I believe there's an online retailer that sells followers that will lock the bolt back, but the bolt comes forward as soon as you drop the magazine.

Nice rifle, looks like he extended the rail out some more (a needed addition imho).

why is this necessary? just use your strong hand to remove and replace the magazine if you're a right hander.

I like to reload without removing my right hand from the grip, and keeping the rifle on my shoulder. Just my personal preference- for me, it results in faster reloads, and the ability to fire the chambered round in mid-reload if need be.

What's the weight of your carbine- loaded and unloaded? Is it based on the RPK reciever like the VEPR?

The 3V (8.5 lbs empty?) is based on the Vepr, and the 3S (6.25lbs) is based on the Saiga.

Can you verify that the thumb safety works in the normal manner (i.e. press forward for off-safe, pull back for safe)? The white dot in the forward position seems to show the opposite.

They shoot like they look. Absolute perfection.

:D

I love mine. I had long regreted not owning a Valmet or a Galil. When I got the KTR, that feeling was gone.
