I got one of these rifles for my sister a couple Christmases ago. Hers is the nickel plated model with the tip down forearm. It is easily more accurate at 75 yards than my 10/22 was out of the box (shot both w/ Nikon 3-9 Prostaff scopes mounted to them). I do not like the factory rear sight on the rifle - it's just a thin piece of metal that looks like it could be easily damaged. I'm hoping to find some way to upgrade the sights to Williams Firesights, or Tech Sights...or at minimum - replace the rear sight with something that will bolt in place of the factory one. On a good note, the trigger is very crisp on my sister's rifle - it breaks right around 4lbs with little to no detectable creep.
The Mossberg 802 definitely lacks refinement (bolt doesn't feel smooth when you operate it), but for the money I don't think they can be beat. My sister's rifle hasn't missed a beat reliability-wise. I was considering buying myself one of these guns to toss in the back of my Jeep.
I think your daughter will love it! It would make a good starter rifle for her!
