I was forwarded this e-mail recently. Looks good! I'm especially intrigued by the 894 gr projectiles he talks about. It's been edited to show the pics instead of just having a link to them. They're taken from the main website at http://www.ferret50.com/

This is Dave from Spider Firearms, manufacturer of the Ferret50. I just
wanted to let you know about the newest developments and products we
have coming out:

New! F-50/Multi-Caliber lowers are now available – made with 4140
steel for super durability, adjustable match trigger, Pachmayr recoil pad,
and standard AR pistol grip. The lower rail fits comfortably on a
sandbag, and the cheek rest & length of pull can even be customized
specifically for you! It’s a new twist on an old favorite. With an
introductory price of just $550 these are already flying off the shelves! Here
are a few links:

The rifle shown is a standard Ferret50 with longer hand guard for
extreme distance accuracy and yes, the new F-50 solid steel lower. The
barrel is a 36†Lothar Walther chrome-moly with 1:9.5 twist and standard
Hybrid-Match chamber. With an overall length of 65†and weighing in at
35lb, this rifle is a dream to shoot (even with the 894gr slugs we’ve been
sending down range at approx 2700fps).

The 894gr projectiles are something new as well. Although we are still
in development, groups have been averaging smaller than 2†at 550yds!
We will definitely be taking this to a match.

New! As shown in the above photos, we are now offering the “originalâ€
State Arms Fish Gill brake on the Ferret50 - as standard equipment.
These brakes are also available individually for $125.

The match trigger/hammer assembly can also be purchased individually
for $150. They are adjustable for creep and over travel and break at
approx. 1 pound. Anti-walk pins and chrome-silicon springs are sold
separately (pins are $7.00, springs are $19.95). Here is a link to a picture
of the trigger/hammer set:

As always, our developments are driven by the comments and questions of
our customers. So feel free to tell us what you think!

Boogity Boogity BOOM!!

is $550 the price of the whole gun, or just the lower, or just the upper? i'm confused! if the whole thing is only $550, i might have to get one of them things! and under 2" at 500 yds?!?! hot damn!

Dang, I was thinking $550 for the WHOLE thing. That would be a dream come too true. At $1850 a .50bmg rifle is once again out of my price range. :(

Can I see a picture of the bullet and a loaded case?

Impressive. How much powder, if you don't mind me asking.

Sven: I really can't say. I searched their website but didn't see any referrence to the heavier projectile. I saw they have "737gr bronze VLD-BT projectiles: $2 each" for sale. I'll try e-mailing the owner. From what I've seen he's a pretty nice guy.

I sent this e-mail to [email protected]

"Hello sir, I was writing in regards to an e-mail I was recently forwarded about your products. In it, you refer to a load firing 894gr projectiles at approxmately 2700fps. I posted the e-mail on a firearms related forum I belong to, and have been asked some questions about this load I cannot answer. You can view the thread yourself at http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=663616#post663616 I post under the name Balog.
So, do you have any pics of the projectile, or cased ammo loaded with it? What are the specifications for the load (powder type and amount etc)? Inquiring minds want to know! I would appreciate any information you can give in this regard. Thank you."

A reply from Dave at Ferret .50!

Just got this in my e-mail.

"The 894gr is something new we are working on. The story goes like this; A customer of mine ordered an upper from us with a faster rifle twist in the barrel. Normally, all of our 50BMG barrels from Lothar Walther are the standard 1:15 twist. This one was ordered with a 1:9.5 twist. After delivery the customer asked if we could make some match ammo for his upper since he knew we were making our own CNC turned bronze projectiles. Well, I didnt want to send him ammo for a 1:15 twist that I knew wouldnt shoot as it should. So I ordered in another 36" barrel with a 1:9.5 twist to work up a projectile and a load. After a couple months work we were getting exceptional groupings from this combo, and felt comfortable with shipping the customer's order of match ammo.

I apologize that the info on this projectile is not on our site as of yet. We are building a new site at the moment. Since we have come out with a lot of new stuff over the summer, I wanted to get an idea of what folks thought of our new stuff. I dont have any pics of the projectile yet, but I will in the next few weeks. As far as the loading, we are using new IMI brass with the basic prep (uniform primer pocket, debured flash hole, chamfered and sized neck), CCI primers and in the neighborhood of 205gr to 215gr of VV 20N29 powder with a seating depth between of -.010" to +.010 of the lands.

I will try to take a look at the message board this week. Feel free to post my reply.

Thank you,
Dave"
