New 870?

I went by my friends shop. He had one of the old and one of the new 870’s. The “remarms” ones have a s/n that starts RAS. They don’t say “REM Arms” on them anywhere. Using the full Remington name. I saw one a month or so back that was a short barrel. This time I saw the Field Master. Dull finish and longer vented barrel. Looked good. I cycled the action and gave it a good look over. Compared to a parts 870 express the difference was huge. The parts model was one assembled with the leftover parts when Remarms started. He wanted $480 for the shotgun. It was all I could do to not pull the money out of my pocket. I really liked the wood stock. I may still get it yet.

No police department that I know of still utilize 12 bores in a lethal role, them all being replaced with Armalites.

Our agency has a rack in each vehicle for rifle (M16/AR15) and 870. Both are biannual quals as well.

Rem Arms LLC is a partnership of the former Remington Outdoor Company CEO and a couple of his friends that bought the Ilion plant out of the bankruptcy action for only 13 mil. Ruger spent 30 mil on Marlin and did not get any property just a hand full of machines, the IP, and brand. Ilion is over 1M square feet facility. The deal was shady as F*** and Ken D'arcy former CEO of Remington gets to keep his job as CEO of Rem Arms. He is the poster child for the term Fudd. I could go on, but will simply say you could roll a $100 bill up and put it in the chamber of a Rem Arms 870 and I wouldn't give you $80 for it. The industry does not need leaders likes that and I personal will not support the company under the current leadership. Spend your money as you will.

Are you serious?
Rem chokes have been standard on Remington for years.

Not necessarily on "riot" barrels. 28in vent rib barrels? Yup. Turkey barrels? Yup. The shorter defense barrels have been Imp Cyl or Cyl for as long as I can remember.

They started putting RemChoke in the 21" turkey barrels, and they did make some 20 and 18" RemChoke barrels though not a lot of them.

My dad has an 18-inch smooth bore slug barrel for his 870 made in the 1990's that takes choke tubes. Rifle sights and came with a cylinder bore choke tube and a rifled choke tube.

Are they loaded lethal or less than? I see many depts. utilizing bean bag guns these days. Not so many utilizing buck or slug.

The new Fieldmaster is basically the Express but with a few cosmetic improvements. They are calling them Fieldmasters to establish a defined break with the old company's products. If it's an Express it is the old company and RemArms won't cover warranty, etc. No need to look at serial numbers.

I have three 18-21” barrels that were all Remchoke. More were than weren’t over the last fifteen years or so.

I have friends that work at the factory. They need the work. Talked to them and they indicated management has them working on quality more than before. They are happy with their work on the 870 line. If they are happy. I am happy. What I looked at, looked nicely done.

Why all the hate? I emailed my friend and asked him to save me one. Remingtons have always been popular locally. Still are. I wish them well.

For me the hate is not for the workers in Ilion but the senior leadership and what they did to the old Remington and the family of brands Bushmaster, DPMS, Para Ordinance, Rem Defense etc and what they did here in Huntsville. Until Ken D'arcy and his cronies are not involved with the new Rem Arms LLC I cannot and will not support the company.

I would not be afraid to buy one if I were looking for a pump shotgun . I own 4 now , three express models and a police . I don’t have any complaints . I bought the first express model about 8 years ago . I liked it for a beater / loaner gun , so I bought the other two , another 12ga and a youth 20ga . They pattern better than their price .

I know a someone personally who was offered the CEO job well over ago. I know him today. After shooting we had lunch and a few beers. He was the CEO of another company at the time. He asked me what I thought. I said you have already made you way. They don’t pay enough to work for a company that you don’t think ethical enough for your standards, even if the company complies with all existing law.

My reason is to support products which are locally made. The 870 looked better than I have seen in many years. To support my friends who I hung out with and shot with years ago, who are great people. A company ingrained into the family, Grandfather and uncle retired from there. My grandmother crated firearms at the arms during WW2. I like you couldn’t give a darn about their CEO.

I see a new 870 in my future.

Almost, if not all, of our local agencies use either 870 or Benelli 12 ga shotguns in patrol cars, rifles racked in trunks. Our two local sheriff’s offices (North of 1600 sworn each) also patrol with 12 ga 870’s. (One issues #4 B, the other 00 B). Our office has both lethal and less lethal 870’s, and like the others listed above we qualify 3x yearly with sidearm(s), 5.56 rifle and 12 ga shotgun.

But, I will admit that officers/deputies pulling shotguns out on calls has certainly declined to few and far between today vs. 1991 when I started.

Stay safe.

I’m just hoping I can get two receivers someday to resurrect my late Brothers TC and my TB, from the mid 70s, which seemed to have a tendency to crack at the rear of the ejection port. I’ve seen at least a dozen of them. Look like scratches.
Boys and I only have seven Wingmasters and two Expresses(early ones that were made right)

This is a Tactical 870 made recently by the new RemArms. I really couldn't find anything wrong with the build quality. None of the new RemArms models I have seen have the Express label on them. I think they did away with that designation thank goodness. I am awaiting the opportunity to see a new wingmaster in the gun stores.

I think folks can just bury the hatchet on the Remington hate. Nothing of them remains even to the extent that I think RemArms has to pay a royalty to Vista Outdoors for the use of their ownership of the Remington brand name. I do not care who owns what as long as the product is of quality and good function.

Not happening, not as long as the current leadership is in charge of Rem Arm LLC, they will not get a cent of my money. Rem Arms LLC's current leadership is the same leadership that killed The Remington Outdoor Company, shutting down Bushmaster and DPMS for political reasons and I will not forget that. When Ken D'Arcy and his cronies are gone I will reevaluate Rem Arms, not before.

Can you get ahold of any pics of the receiver cracks ? I have a 1970's also, now you have me worried lol

Simple: a scratch looking line extending from the rear of the ejection port. Usually one line about an inch long in the center with several short ones above/ below.
They look like scratches but extend around the radius of the port.
My boys and I have had three of them, a TB, a TC and a Wingmaster all of mid 70s vintage.
I got one replaced before Rem went belly up.
I bought a couple of good old Wingmasters to use to replace the others. Leaves me with a pile of barrels, stocks, etc
