I ordered some new componets for an AR upper this evening. I realize some folks like all their parts to be matching and of the same brand. I tried to buy what I considered the best parts and componets for the price. To each his own.

Anyhow, here is what I purchased:

Daniel Defense upper receiver

Daniel Defense, CL, CHF, 1 in 7 twist barrel

J. D. Machine Tech, low profile gas block

YHM Diamond, mid-length quad rails

Troy folding battle sight, front and rear

Vortex 1 X 30, Strike-fire red-dot with 2X magnifier (Ok, I skimped on the optic a little. I'll get something nicer a little later, once my wallet has healed a little.) BTW, does anyone have any experience with this optic? I went on a friends's suggestion for under $200.00.

I am considering mounting this upper on a LMT Defender, or possibly a Mega lower.

Vortex actually makes some decent glass, even in their budget lines. I've got a pair of Fury binoculars that actually impressed my guide last fall who was sporting Leica's. My StrikeFire has been mounted on my RRA for a good while now and though the Mark AR Leupold allows for more precise shots the RDS is simply more fun and at ~1/3 the price. Given the typical end user for such items I think it will hold its own.

Now about that hand guard... :neener:

Sounds like a good build. Solid. The barrel should out last you. LMT and Mega are very good quality. That will make a fine complete AR.

Thanks,

Good to hear about the Strike-fire. I've never even handled one. Just went with a friend's suggestion. $169, ordered from Brownell's, free S/H.
